Good morning!

YouTube suggested a HotandFlashy video for me yesterday afternoon. The vlogger, Angie, suggested that sleeping on one's back, as opposed to sleeping on one's side or stomach, has a bunch of beauty benefits.

Angie said she experiences less puffiness, fewer wrinkles, and fewer aches and pains in her back, shoulders, and hips when she sleeps on her back. She also said that sleeping that way eliminates the chest crease that sometimes appears with age.

People in the comment section agreed that they looked and felt better after sleeping on their backs.

I generally sleep on my side but I was curious. I slept on my back last night, with a supportive pillow under my head and another pillow under my knees. Angie suggested a wedge pillow, to sleep in a more upright position, but that is not for me.

I think she's right about the puffiness. I know my body feels better. I'm sold on the idea.

Has anyone else tried to change the position they sleep in for beauty or health reasons? I wasn't familiar with the idea so it was something of a revelation.

You'd think most people would opt for whatever is comfortable. As far as health reasons, some people need to elevate their feet, others lay in a more upright position. I guess that's why there are adjustable beds. I myself am a back sleeper although I'll roll on my side occasionally.

I've always had trouble sleeping and most times I slept on my side. I started getting shoulder aches and sleep wrinkles. I took her advice the last time she made a video and got a wedge. I've tried various pillows and techniques to try and sleep on my back, but it never worked until I got the wedge.

I use a small, buckwheat pillow. Have used this for years as it's the only one that supports my neck. I don't pile on the pillows and sleep almost upright like she does. I almost follow the line of the wedge. This is what is most comfortable for me and my head is still elevated. So I put the pillow ontop of the wedge. No pillows under my knees. I go to sleep on my back and wake up the same way.

I've noticed less puffiness to my face, no sleep wrinkles, and my sinuses are better. I'm glad I followed her recommendation. I just modified with what was most comfortable for me.

I did notice when I had my double knee replacement that when I had to sleep on my back during the first month of healing, I had much less eye puffiness.... I notice now that in the morning I have more puffy on the side of my face that is on the pillow.

It is extremely hard to sleep in only one postition all night long. When I HAD to sleep on my back after knee surgery, I did not sleep well at all.... so perhaps not sleeping good VS less puffiess may not be the best thing overall for your health... just good for your vanity.

I only have one night behind me, but I will say it wasn't hard for me because I could still lie with my legs on either side.

That helped shift my position and I turned my head from one side to the next.

I starfished my arms or brought them in.

The only part of me that remained in mostly the same position was my shoulders, which were flat.

I'm sure it's not for everyone but I really didn't lie in the same position all night.

wow, i'll have to agree. i've been a side sleeper almost all my life, and when i got older, i realized i had more aches, pains and puffiness. i thought it may be my pillow, until i changed pillows and things remained the same. so i thought to sleep on my back, and the aches and pains went away. so did some of the puffiness. i was so surprised. i miss sleeping on my side because i feel it's more comfortable, but sleeping on my back does me better.

Following my recent retina surgery, I have had to sleep with my face down (on a rented contraption). It was the most uncomfortable position ever! I noticed my eyelids were both puffy and mentioned it to my son. When we returned for my second post-op, he asked the surgeon about my puffy lids. "The fluids have accumulated in your mother's facial tissues. When she's able to lie on her back, that puffiness will disappear."

Ever since my husband's death, I've ceased sleeping on my side (no longer have someone to cuddle/spoon with). Have been a back sleeper since 2005. Perhaps that's why I have little to no wrinkles? IDK Interesting post!

I believe the back sleeping is better for your facial appearance. But I just cannot do it. Long stretches of back sleeping always give me a massive headache. I'm a hard core side and stomach sleeper. Ultimately I'd choose happy sleeping versus looking better, even though I can't believe I just said that since I'm terribly vain. Sleep is everything to me.
