@HarpaI agree. I don't think the skin gets particularly confused when you change products, nor does it plateau if you don't switch up your products regularly.

If there's a problem when someone switches products, it's probably because they chose the wrong product for their needs. And if a good product stops working as well over time, it's probably because the person's skin or circumstances changed during that time.

I use everything from Vit. C to moisturizers, eye balm and just discovered their Equalizing Toner w/ Fruit Acid. Retin A's been in the line up for over 35 yrs. and Obagi for dark spots when needed (maybe 20 yrs.). Bobbi Brown Soothing Oil Cleanser forever...haven't found another that removes all makeup (eyes, too) w/o burning and leaves skin plump and not tight. All purchased not on Q.

I don't look for other skincare products, so am never tempted to try them.

I don’t change skin care products very often. If something is working then I don’t feel the need to change.

I have tried new products over the years as formulas & ingredients have changed. I also have adjusted my product routine based on my skin care concerns at the time.

I have also tried a few products suggested here on the beauty forum. Unfortunately, one size does not fit all. What works for one person may not work for others. IMO it’s a lot of trial and error.

My current skin care includes Olay cleanser & SPF moisturizer, Neutrogena alcohol free toner, Paula’s Choice BHA, and aloe Vera gel. Btw I am in my late 50s with oily acne prone skin and a few eye wrinkles.

I’ve found products from different lines that work for me. Timeless for serums, Paula’s Choice for cleanser and exfoliation, Olay for spf, prescription retinoid and Cerave moisturizer. It sounds kind of complicated in writing, but I’ve used the same products for years and have no desire to try new things.

I keep my basic categories the same: mild cleanser, antioxidant serum, peptide serum, high quality moisturizer, and SPF in the day and vitamin A derivative at night. But I don't care what brand anything is. As long as I trust the brand's quality and think they're worth supporting, and I can find a way to afford the product, I consider swapping in newer better items.

But I know what types of ingredients my skin prefers. I think it's a good idea to learn that on an individual basis.

My skin has been a major issue my entire life! LOL

From acne to rosacea to hyper sensitivity....a nightmare to find products that didn't make my situation worse.

I avoid many many products due to ingredients I have learned what will bother my skin...if I see that on the list I simply do NOT try it no matter how great reviews for it are.

I have had to change my skincare due to disease...aging and the company simply stopped making the cleanser or moisturizer I was able to use. Same with foundations over the years.

What may have worked for me at 30 will not work for me now...for the ladies that can use the same ponds cold cream since they were 10yrs old...great. That doesn't work for me...I wasn't blessed with "good" skin...so it's a struggle I will have the rest of my life.

Instead of getting down about some line not working for you any longer or perhaps they changed or discontinued the products...look for something in another line similar and get samples from Sephora/Ulta/Macys.

I am trying to pare down my products...I did step out and try alot of new anti-aging ones in the last few yrs. At 1st they seemed to be ok for me...then about 8wks in...the pimples started showing up! So most I have left I use on my neck/chest area. I will not be purchasing those any longer for my face.

Instead I am attempting to use Retin-a 0.025% 2-3 times per week and a good moisturizer over top. Purity works as a cleanser...and some HA serum/mask I have on hand to use up.

I don't use an entire "line" myself. I have favorite products from different brands that I buy and use consistently. (none from QVC) I find ingredients that work for me, not "lines."

Several years ago I read an article that stated if you skip around and use different brands/products constantly, it confuses your skin and can cause breakouts and unhealthy skin. Basically, find products you like and stick with them for long periods.

Then, just yesterday, I read an article on MSN that stated if you use the exact same skin care brands day in, day out for years at a time, you skin will become "immune" to the ingredients and they will lose their effectiveness on your skin. You should change up your products on a regular basis.

Somewhere there's a happy medium......

@Jackhound Mom I don't use a line of skin care products. I am loving Rose Hydrating moisturizer by Fresh because it is very hydrating and locks in the moisture. I use this at night alternating with Maracuja oil. I don't like layering products. Fresh products are made with natural ingredients. My skin can be sensitive. I use a facial wash by BWC (herbal creme). I just started using a facial exfoliant by Botanics that I bought at Target and it is excellent and I also have two other moisturizers by Botanics one with SPF and one without.

Many years ago I read about Chantal Ethocyn in the magazine Sky Mall. I don't know remember where I was flying but I remember the ad. The woman used Ethocyn on one side of her face and nothing on the other side of her face. There was a distinct difference.

It was a bit pricy so I did not order it.

Well, A few years later HSN was selling Ethocyn and Polly Bergen was the spokesperson. So I bought it. I was pleased with the results. HSN had it as a TSV and it was available on auto-delivery. I signed up. I even moved the shipments to once a month so I would always have a supply. Then HSN stopped carrying Ethocyn. I was in a panic until I could find it again.

I have been using Ethocyn for over 30 years. And am pleased with the results.
