If your pillowcase is wearing your skincare products then you are probably applying too much and/or applying your products too soon before bedtime.

Primers are not made to 'seal in' skincare products. Primers are used to prepare the skin for makeup application. I would be concerned that a primer may interfere with my skincare products.

Night masks (not night creams) are made to be applied at night and those help seal in your other products and they are usually light and won't leave a mess on your pillow.

I use a moisturizer at bedtime, not a primer. Pretty sure primer is meant to give your makeup an even surface to cling to, not to seal in treatments. A moisturizer is better for that. But if you really like the results from using a primer instead of a moisturizer, there's nothing wrong with it. Most primers are similar to simple oil-free silicone-based gel moisturizers.

Sealing products isn't to prevent them from getting on your pillow. As others said, if your pillow wears more skincare than you, that's a different issue.

It means sealing the water and moisture into your skin so that less of it evaporates as skin is exposed to air, especially forced air heating in the winter. That's what the "seal" is for.

You want an emollient lipid barrier for a seal, which is one reason facial oils go last in a skincare routine - they provide that barrier and seal moisture in.

If my skincare isn't penetrating and just sits on the surface so it rubs off on my pillow, I try:

Exfoliating

Adding products to damp skin instead of completely dry skin

Using less product

Using products in a different order

Changing products

I don't use a primer to seal skin care. I always thought a primer went on in the AM after skincare is applied so your foundation and/or concealer had a barrier.

this is the first I've heard about using a primer at night time. I apply my evening skincare and then wait for it to absorb a bit before getting into bed. It hardly takes any time at all to absorb.

Yes! I’ve been doing this for years after Mally mentioned it. For instance- serum Night cream. Then primer. It works!!! I use the Monistat Chafing Gel. I have no problems with breakouts. I find it just helps the moisture from evaporating during the night. Give it a try!

Interesting.... guess I've never been concerned about rubbing my skin care onto my bed pillow. I've heard both Mally and Laura Geller recommend this, but assumed they were trying to sell more primer. $$$ Seems ridiculous to me. I always cleanse my face and apply only one layer of skin care early in the evening, right after supper. So whatever I put on my face has plenty of time to absorb long before I go to bed.

A moisturizer shouldn't evaporate into the air - it should absorb into the skin. Right?
