Lip Color Names

Okay, I'm going on a little rant now. I looked at the one day only prices for today and see that Malley and RuPaul have a lipstick trio out. Now we all know from past experience that the color in the pictures online are not necessarily they same as they look in person.

The colors for these 3 lipsticks are Mama-Ru, TeeHee, and Werk Room. I don't know about you, but none of these colors were in my crayola box as a kid, and I had to big box of crayons. Nowhere in the product description does it say what the colors are. It should say something like Mama-Ru is a beautiful shade of fuschia (or whatever), but no, nothing. In fact what it does say in the decription is that the lipstick is lip-sync proof. What the heck does that mean? I don't know about you, but I don't usually go around lip singing in my daily life. Is the lipsitck long wearing? We don't know that, but we know we can lip sync with it.

I totally agree. Lipstick and nail polish names have nothing to do with the color anymore.

Yesterday I ordered a lipstick from Urban Decay. The name of the color had nothing to do with color. But the Q did have a picture and a small description of the color.

@Travone Talk about lipstick color names, that box of 64 isn't what it used to be either when we grw up either.

I do agree. Name it whatever you want, but please, give us a description. And, if you are selling it online, a swatch. I love the ones that give you a swatch on light, medium & dark skin.

I am so old I didn't have crayons. We had a stick and dirt to draw in and they didn't have names for that!

Cutesy and clever names for cosmetics have been popular for a long time. Especially with nail polish for some reason. I think Essie and OPI have a team of writers just to come up with those names. Today I'm wearing a shade of NARS blush that has a name related to s-e-x, I'm sure if I write it they'll delete my post. It starts with an O.

I've ordered many lipsticks online and get it right most of the time.

I only buy ones I know I'll like the forumlation already, replace existing favorites, or get new shades by using the swatches, color descriptions, lphotos shown on models of different colorings, etc. It works very well if the website does it correctly.

On QVC not so much. I won't order here again and take a chance as every lipstick I did order has been returned, mostly due to bad colors, nothing like described, or the photos.

Love the Lancome and Estee Lauder sites for lipsticks, great products, great descriptions. Love Chanel.

Of course it is still a gamble - a website's pinky nude will probably be orangey sand on my very fair coloring.

Whenever I'm at Ulta or a department store I browse the lipstick brands I like and note colors I might like to try in the future in an online order. It helps SO much to see them in person if you can.

@Travone Even if the color names are Pink, Nude and Red, that’s not what arrives in my mailbox. TV pictures differ and definitely computer images are never accurate. I purchase color cosmetics in the store...unless I’ve made that same purchase online and know for sure what I’m getting.

I really don't like the semi-porno names some lipsticks have. DH thinks they are funny like the "O" one. He also liked the new one I got ....Maybelline's Undressed Pink.

The names are related to the RuPaul Drag Race competitive reality show. Mama Ru is a nickname the contestants sometimes call RuPaul, who hosts the show. And Werk Room is the name of the workroom where the contestants create their costumes and put on all their drag clothing and makeup. TeeHee, I don't know. I know "tea" is slang for gossip.

Regarding lipstick being lip sync proof, on the Drag Race show, the contestants who do the worst in the challenge of the day get a chance to redeem themselves at the end by competing at lip syncing to a song. The best lip syncer gets to stay and the loser has to leave. They call it "Lip Sync for Your Liiiiiiiife."

It's a fun show. Can be a tad raunchy at times. I find it uplifting though.

I'm SO over names! They probably didn't start this lunacy, but OPI and "Mother Road Rose" and "Wonka Wonka" were never in my crayon box either.

@Group 5 minus 1 I wore Cherries in the Snow lipstick and nail polish for years when I was in my early 20's. A few years ago I saw it is still available and purchased. Doesn't "work for me" now. I really loved that color. I also used Persian Melon. Of course then we didn't have all the hundreds of brands/choices like now.

One of my all time favorite names is Santorini Sunrise (Burts Bees lip crayon) and I feel like this whenever I put it on....

Not just a pretty name....a pretty color too!
