New use for micellar water

Well I use Garnier micellar water. The type I use is the blue cap that works on waterproof mascara. Well this works so well I decided to clean my dingy looking side soles of some of my sketchers....back to white. Thought I would pass that one on.

I’d never have thought to try that!

I have the same product but I rarely use it; I usually use the wipes to remove my makeup. I’ll have to try it on my dingy soles.

If it can clean the dirty side walls of my sneakers I'm not sure I would want it on my face!

IMHO, micellar water is not good to use on your skin...it's a basically a petroleum-based chemical solvent similar to paint thinner. It's no wonder that it can clean side walls of sneakers! i

I don’t think it’s an indicator that it’s harsh. I use face wipes to clean my feet and sandals at the end of the day and they are not harsh at all.

I toss my skechers (and DH's) in the washer. They come out beautifully colored & white side walls alike.

I also use micellar on my face to remove makeup, never thouth of using it for anythnig else.

I bought some micellar water once and didn't like it. So now I use it to 'quick-clean' my makeup brushes. Just put a little on a paper towel then swipe my brushes on it....back 'n forth until they come clean. Works like a charm.

I thought this was suppose to be gentle on are face!

I use Simple micellar water at times and so far have had no problems with it. I have extremely sensitive skin and - knock on wood --- have had not issues so far. It doesn't seem irritating at all.

What the heck IS this? What does the word “micellar” REALLY MEAN? My spell check isn’t even sure it’s a real word?

"The idea is that micelles are attracted to dirt and oil, so they are able to draw out impurities without drying out the skin," she says. What keeps the oil in suspension is chemicals called glycols which are not harsh or toxic but they are have been known to penetrate skin and that might not be a good thing if you consider what other substances can be drawn into the skin along with it. Glycols can trigger allergic reactions and have been known to cause skin irriration.

Pretty much all surfactants (aka cleanser ingredients) are made of micelles. Your average gel cleanser has micelles too. Nothing new or radical about it. So micellar water is really just a way to market a new cleanser format--meaning a water cleanser.

What's great about micellar water is that people don't expect it to foam up. Trying to get consumers to accept non-foaming or low-foaming cleansers has been an issue for a long time. (Foaming cleansers are not always the best for the skin.) This micellar water is sort of an intermediate step to get the general public to realize that they can clean their skin without foam. In my opinion.

I have really sensitive skin and most products give me a rash. My derm recommended this for me. No problems whatsoever : no redness, no rash. Does a great job in cleaning my face. Skin feels really good after I use this.

That is almost scary that you can remove your mascara yet clean the rubber on your Sketchers. Yuck.

Do you drink Coke? Do you know that it cleans toilet bowls, removes rust from nuts and bolts, removes corrosion from car battery terminals, kills snails and slugs? Is that scary to you?
