Yes I'm one of few people that still get a per. Does anyone else still get perms? I was wondering what products you use on your permed hair. My ends get so dry. Thanks.

I like perms. I haven't had one in a while, but was thinking of getting one. I always use a leave in conditioner and a curl cream. Brand doesn't matter. I go by the label or smell.

My hair is long, straight and flat but I would love to have a 'root perm' to give it some lift at the roots. The only problem is when it grows out. Looks weird unless you maintain the root perms regularly.

I've been getting perms for years, about every 3-4 months. I have straight, thin, fine hair. I keep my hair short so it's fairly easy to take care of. After I shampoo I use a spray, leave-in conditioner. I also use the spray on dry hair to style it a little.

I got perms when I was a child, Toni, Lilt, all from my Mother.

I continued with perms (home and professional) occasionally over the years until about 20 years ago when one didn’t take so the hairdresser did another one the next week. It was a frizzy mess!

My friend is a hairdresser and she asked “when can I cut your hair” I told her “today”. After lunch she gave me a short cut since my hair was burned.

She also gave me lessons to trim it if she was away on vacation.

She told me after the perm was gone I have wavy hair, color it and don’t neeed perms.

It’s longer now but I still color it, and cut it and will NEVER get another perm! There are many new hair products that can boost curl.

In the last couple of years I have had three perms, and use WEN cleansing conditioners to keep my hair soft and silky. My hair is naturally very, very straight and won't hold a curl from a heated tool unless completely lacquered with canned hair spray, so having a perm is my only option for any sort of styling that lasts. My last perm was the best by far, it was a "piggyback perm" in which the stylist used two different sized rods, alternating them, all over my head. It's lasted very well, giving me soft waves even if I brush it out, and a slightly curlier look if I only finger-comb when wet and let it air dry.

No, but I used to get them all the time! However, about 25 years ago, my hairdresser at the time said, "girl, you don't need a perm. You have enought natural curl." He put a diffuser to my head (I had never even heard of a diffuser) and wallah! I've never had a perm again!

I get a perm once, maybe twice a year. I have just enough wave in my hair that in it's natural state requires styling on a daily basis and I have neither the time nor the patience to do so. I know it's damaging, but I rationalize that since I'm not using curling or straightening irons on a daily basis that maybe it's actually healthier for my hair. I follow the Curly Girl Method as far as products goes (no silicones, sulfates, or drying alcohols) which also helps keep it healthier. Luckily, that small amount of natural wave helps to keep the grow-out obvious. I have people I've known for years that think it's natural and I'm quite open about the fact that I perm. My hair grabs it, so it's ready at the minimum amount of time in my hair and my hairdresser uses some of the largest rods she has. Even so, it ends up pretty curly, not beach wavy by any stretch of the imagination.

I want no fuss hair so I get large rod perms on my shoulder length shaped hair 4 times a year. My hairdresser uses a Joico product before rolling the rods that boosts moisture and it works well. I also get a moisturizing treatment between color and perms. My natural hair is just blah and now I only have to roll a medium roller on the bangs and air dry while doing my makeup. I use a Joico product to thicken the look and usually spray Isomers Beach Waves Texturizing Sea Salt Spray after washing or wetting it daily and only a few minutes to fluff it out and perfect hair all day.
