Asam Collagen Boost serum

I looked at the list of ingredients ~ i dont see collagen ~ unless one of these ingredients is collagen in disguise

Ok for some reason its not letting me paste the ingredients ~ it is on special on HSN today

The purpose of this serum us to encourage the skin's natural collagen production. It's not adding collagen topically, which by the way doesn't work.

M Asam.

Collagen doesn't have the ability to penetrate the skin, so it's pretty much worthless in a cream/serum. However, it's Collagen Boost which means it is supposed to stimulate collagen production, not add collagen. It does have ingredients that have been shown to stimulate the production of collagens, specifically glycine soja seed extract (aka soybean) and soy isoflavones. Whether it has been demonstrated in humans or not I can't say.

I like M Asam products and have used this serum in the past. I currently use their Skin Tightening serum.

Topical collagen is actually a very good moisturizer. The collagen protein has an affinity for moisture and that's what most people are seeing when they use a product containing collagen...good moisturization, which translates to less visible lines and wrinkles. Most collagen creams are rather thick and heavy, making them feel that way on the skin, too. Many of them are used as a nighttime treatment. I use one a night when I need a moisture boost. When skin is hydrated it becomes more firm, but only as long as it remains hydrated.

Several reviewers complained of breakouts. I suspect that might be because of the silicone (amodimethicone) it contains as well as citrus oil (limonene).

I wonder about skin care products that use marine-based ingredients like the algae used in Algenist. The reason why I say this is because of the high levels of mercury in the oceans. I hope there is some kind of mercury removal process used to make the products safe to use on skin. But how would you know for sure?

It's funny but I find that for beauty products, reviews are often much worse on the Q than they are for the same product on Sephora. I trust Sephora more, because it is populated by people who try and use a lot of stuff, and have a more experienced POV they are coming from, vs someone who is maybe just getting started with beauty. That's my two cents anyway. I usually don't get too deep into the Q reviews, whereas I'll read a lot of Sephora ones before deciding on a purchase. Also, QVC lacks detailed info on most, if not all, beauty products. You have to go to Sephora for the details and application tips.

Another good site to read lots of reviews for many things is Influenster dot com. I've been going there quite frequently and find it's very helpful as far as reviews are concerned.
