How long do you wait for your hairdresser

There is a thread that was started regarding workmen and being on time for home improvements. It started me thinking. I ask who and how long someone would wait for their hairdresser or nail tech. My story is that my hairdresser, to whom I had been going to for over a year, was becoming consistently late. After the first time, I questioned the manager as to whether or not I had the correct time due to the fact I had switched my appointment. It was 20 minutes at that point. Yes, according to the manager I did have the correct time. However, he must have said something to the hairdresser because she was very piqued when coming downstairs to greet me. And, then she asked why I was annoyed. What??? When she was late the next two times, over 15 to 20 minutes, I decided that maybe this was just not a good fit and changed to a different person in the same salon.So, how long does anyone else give for their hairdresser or nail tech to be late? .

I *might* overlook 1 instance of being so late, but after that I'd be looking for a new hairdresser, especially when your operator had an attitude.

I've never had to wait more than about 5 minutes, and that's rare. I have a gem of a hairdresser, have been going to her for over 9 years.

I have very little tolerance for lateness for most any appointment I have. I find it to be incredibly rude, unless there is a very compelling reason for the lateness.

I give mine all the time in the world, life doesn't revolve around me, people have their prioritys too. I've been going to the same hairdresser for 31 years, and as I tell her, "I hav nothing to do the rest of my life" and we get along well. This is just nothing you should hold anyones feet to the fire over, things happen, situations arrive.

I too am an on-time person so it annoys me to no end having to wait on others. I used to go to a hairdresser that was so unprofessional. I'd show up on time for my appt. and she'd always tell me " I'm running behind----could you go run errands for about 45 min. ?" Needless to say, after a couple times of this I went elsewhere!

I’ve been going to the same hairdresser for 30 years.I love him.We’ve become good friends.I never have to wait more than about 5 minutes.In fact he accommodates me.He goes out of his way to fit me in when I have a hair emergency.I also work with him if he needs me to change my appointment.He’ll text me & we work it out!!

@Krimpette I'm with you on becoming very annoyed being kept waiting for any type of appointment. I am never late for any appointments for many reasons. I've never had problems with any hairdresser in fact my current greets me at the door.

Many times for many of us I'm guessing are the Drs who tend to be late. We rarely know the circumstances. I make it a point to take the earliest appt I can get with either of my 2 Drs, this way I am on time usually a bit early so I am not the one who sets them back for the rest of their day. My dentist and his assitants are always on time too.

@Deanie- Unless there's a very good reason, I expect appointments I've made to be on time (regardless of what it's for). "Once in a blue moon", as they say, would be understandable, if an explanation and apology was offered.

If a hairdresser was late three times in a row, it would be "three strikes you're out". It shows a lack of courtesy and let's you know she thinks your time isn't valuable.

Since it was someone you'd only been seeing for year, I think you did the right thing by switching to a different person.

(Ironically, I just came from a hair appointment this morning and my hairdresser was on time as always!)

I don't think 20 minutes long to wait if I can see that my haidresser is doing someone else's hair. There's no exact science to scheduling appointments, sometimes she's through with the person before me quicker, sometimes it takes her longer. I go on Saturday mornings so there's no time crunch for me and I have my Kindle with me. I'm ok waiting for 30 minutes but I rarely have to wait that long. If there is a wait, it's 15 or 20 minutes. I've been with my hair dresser for years, even though I don't go often. You weren't happy with her so, switching to different hair dresser was the right thing for you. That would be a little "dicey" in the shop I go to. My nail shop does not take appointments so, when the weather is good and everyone is getting pedicures, I've waited for up to an hour. I try to go early Sunday mornings when there is not a wait but that's hard to do. It means getting there at 9am when she opens the shop.

yep, I left someone after 20+ years who was late for me a few times when I was the first appt of the day at 10AM, no excuse there

I've never been kept waiting. Either that's due to excellent scheduling, the skill level of my stylist (they tell the scheduler how much time to book for an appointment) or both. Now that she has her own salon, I have a set appointment and walk right to her chair.

I ask what time is her first appointment for the day. That's the time I go with, and so far it works well.

If there was a hair stylist around her who could do a great job with highlights and cut at a reasonable price, I'd wait all day for her/him! If there were lots of them, I'd probably move on to one who valued my time.

If it happens more than a few times, and he/she is not my all time favorite perfect hairdresser, my limit is 20 min. and then I find a new one.

Doctors have emergencies and I understand that, and will wait longer, but this is just bad scheduling and an obvious don't care attitude.

mine is usually on time UNLESS a customer shows up and duh ... not her appointment but she takes them anyway! Happened only a few times -- the customers are older (much older) ladies who get dropped off so I give her a "pass".

I know life doesn’t revolve around me and that’s why I make an “appointment” if I wanted to just show up, I’d go to Great Clips. I think it’s a courtesy to be on time for an “appointment” that’s why I make them.

I never mind waiting. I don't schedule thngs so tightly that I don't have time to sit and wait when necesary.

@Deanie I hate appointments! I have had hairdressers chat on the phone when styling or answer it then forget where they were cutting.

I went for a perm and the girl took a motorcycle ride and forgot the time. FRIZZ!

They were usually late. So after a very bad perm I decided never to have a perm again and started cutting and coloring my own hair. I’ve been doing it for 20 years. Saved a lot of money, and I get many complements.

So far, no one has come forward to tell me that my wishes and wants are more important than anyone else's. And until they do, I will agree with you. Life doesn't revolve aaround me, and other people do have priorities and needs. Things happen to all of us, and I have no intention of making an a## of myself over someone's schedule. I've been going to the same person for almost 40 years (since I moved here) and I value our relatiionship too much to risk it over a few minutes. I go everywhere expecting to experience a reasonable wait and it doesn't bother me at all. I am usually on time, and prepared to wait my turn when it comes.
