Melasma help

Does anyone know of any products that work on melasma on face? Not sure what to do, it is pretty bad!!

Just wondering if you might be pregnant? If so, you need to be careful in what products you use. There are many treatment methods, both drug and natural approaches. I'd first find out if I was expecting and proceed from there. Melasma during pregnancy subsides after delivery. If you are not pregnant, there are options like using a good vitamin c serum to reduce the hyperpigmentation. Apple cider vinegar could help too. Hydroquinone is a skin bleach that's often recommended (2% is OTC, 4% is prescription strength). It' is a banned ingredient in some other countries but avaiable here in the USA.

There's a lot of info out there that you can do your own homework on. Remember, nothing works overnight so you'll have to be patient for results to happen.

@twins04 I suffer from moderate to severe (rt. cheek) melasma and few OTC products can help.

Retin A (Rx) froma derm helps when used nightly and sunblock during the day, Tri-Luma really helps but can only be used for 3 months ata time.

OTC: Pond's Clairant cream (pink top, I think), Porcelana-both from drugstore, but contain hydroquinone.

I recommend Vit. C products; I use a serum called Truth Serum by Ole Henrikesen under moisturizer.

Dimitri James/Skinn Cosmetics has an Enlightened Radiance line that is supposed to be good, but did nothing for me which is why I went to my derm for help.

Elizabeth Grant on Evine also has Vit. C products that have good reviews but Truth Serums helps most for my smaller spots. hth

Nadinola, sold at Walgreens, Walmart, etc, has 3% hydroquinone - which is the strongest you can purchase over-the-counter. Around $10.00 at Walgreens.

Tried Nadinola and Porcelana,....no success. However, these products are easily found in drug stores and inexpensive and it might work for you.

Tri-Luma cream is available at AllDayChemist without a Rx. It is specifically made to treat moderate to severe melasma for a temporary 8-week treatment interval. If you are pregnant, nursing or expecting to get pregnant then this is not to be used.

4% Hydroquinone is what a derm doc will prescribe, RX strength. I had a huge melasma on my cheek 20 years ago, used the RX for 3 months, spot went away, not teturned.

@SilleeMee What is the TriLuma called on alldaychemist? I dont see Triluma but will check again. I purchase RetinA fromADC. tia.

I recently started using Neutrogena rapid tone repair and I"m very happy with the results . It seems to be helping.I also use spf 50 every day. Hope this helps.

I have used RX strength hydroquinone 4% (OBAGI). You mix a drop of the cream in your hand w/ equal amt. of Retin A. It faded many dark spots and worked in about 3-4 months...every night use.

@Shanus- I used Obagi many years ago. Do you get a script from your doc and then get it from your pharmacy now?

Since the Tri-Luma contains tretinoin, that ingredient might not be compatible with some people. The Tri-Luma also contains an anti-inflammatory to help reduce redness which is nice for those who might have that issue. @San Antonio Gal

Hi @San Antonio Gal. When I was using OBAGI, the 4% was still available otc. Now it’s avail. at my derm and adjoining medi spa w/ her RX. I have never gotten it at the drugstore...not sure if they even have it.
