Question: Any product/device that you all consider REVOLUTIONARY in last couple years?

Hi ALL,

About eight years ago - I was very involved with this forum (asking and answering questions). I learned a great deal from forum members about all aspects of SKINCARE & TREATMENT...medical prodecures, OTC skincare products and devices.

Back then the most popular devices were: NuFace, microneedling & LED? handheld face devices to boost collagen. The most effective topical skincare was: Sunscreen (of course); Retin A (if tolerated); Using cleasing OILS (jojoba etc. depending on skintype) and Botox.

HAS there been any "NEW" profound skincare product or device that most people on the forum find effective in improving skin tone & wrinkles? TIA

Laser treatment by a derm is the way to go I'm convinced. I had some broken capillaries and it took care of them. Nothing you could do at home would do what the derm did I don't think. It was expensive but worth every penny.

An illness and a stupid purchase of a Clarisonic contributed to this.

@Sooner I totally forgot about Clarisonic...that was also very popular here years ago. I, too, had a bad outcome..it caused broken caps. around my nose and on my cheek

I don't think there have been any revolutionary, game-changing advances made in skin care recently. At the professional level there have been some improvements and refinements in laser, RF and ultrasound technologies. These things would have to be evaluated with a professional or derm in order to determine which one would be best for you. I've had laser treatments for dark spot removal, skin tightening and facial spider vein removal. All have been successful and I am very happy about that.

@MsCatLuverWhile the reviews for this were poor, for me it was SKINN's Trim Lastic (Evine). It is a stretch chin mask that you stretch over a skin treatment pad. I have been using it for over a year and my jowels are gone as well as the gobbler thing under my chin. The crepey under chin look is also nearly gone and is so faint can barely be seen I used it 2 or 3 times a week for about 8 months and now use it maybe once a week and sometimes not even that.

I had several treatments done to remove three dark spots...I think there were a total of four laser visits to my derm until the spots were gone. Each treatment was under $150 but that was years ago. This kind of treatment today, per visit, will probably be closer to $250 and that also depends on what part of the country it's done.

I don't know enough about devices, but not much is happening by way of outstanding ingredients being incorporated into skincare.

Since your hiatus, I may have changed some method, but haven't really changed much in the way of topical ingredients.

I just saw an episode of Botched and Dr Dubrow was getting fiillers all over his face. He said that as skin ages - you need something to plump them up. So all those pills, serums, creams etc can only do so much. I'm surprised he showed it since he sells a line on TV.

When you go in for spot removal at the derm's office, they usually charge for a consult first then make the appointment after that. Consult fees vary anywhere from $50 to $100.

@SeaMaiden I think mine were closer to $300 but for general redness in cheek area close to nose and caps not just small spots.

I had skin tightening of the face, eyelids and neck done by a derm using a YAG laser. It was done around fifteen years ago and I am still happy with the results. This sort of laser treatment is done in several visits, for me one a month, for six consecutive months. Laser skin tightening is most beneficial for those with slight to moderate laxity so the more saggy the skin, the less dramatic the results. The whole procedure is not inexpensive but it cost less than a traditional face lift and it doesn't require cutting.

eta - Lasers have gotten much more efficient at what they can do.Treatment times are not as long or as painful as they use to be. Skin tightening procedures have been done in just a few treatments nowadays. But the cost is considerably more because of the nature of the highly specialized lasers themselves. They require a lot of expensive maintenance which drives the cost upwards.

You're very welcome. You might inquire about the Fraxel laser. That one is more commonly used these days. It wasn't quite available to most derms when I had my treatments done. The Fraxel is actually more efficient and treatment times are reduced. @MsCatLuver

Another laser is a CO2 pulse which is mostly used on more sagging skin by going deeper to induce collagen and tightening. There is more down time with this one.

@MsCatLuver I love the Pop Sonic Leaflet. It does a great job cleansing my face with a facial wash plus it cleans out pores. Since it is two sided, the other side is for massaging the face. You never need any type of refills and you can regulate the speed.
