I’m just curious how everyone cares for their cuticles. I typically trim mine (yes, I know you’re not “supposed” to cut them, but they’ve been so ragged and dry lately. I’d like to stop cutting them but I’m afraid they’ll get thick and ugly. My hands are in water a lot so I’m sure that doesn’t help. I’d love to hear how others care for their cuticles, keeping them neat and clean.

After several months, the amount of cuticle lessened. I put on hand lotion (nails/cuticle, too) at night and poured a little face oil (argan, marula, etc) into empy polish so I could brush on cuticles at night and massage it in well.

I try to avoid cutting the eponychium, the living tissue at the cuticle area. The dead cuticle tissue that gets stuck to the nail I remove with Blue Cross Cuticle Remover I get at Sally beauty and an orange wood stick. Sally Hansen also makes a great cuticle remover, the blue gel one. I can't remember the name.

I use a nail oil I make myself that's 75% jojoba oil and 25% vitamin E oil. I apply that when I sit at home watching TV, before bed, or any other time I remember. I keep a click pen with the oil in my purse and apply before I drive, because I know I won't be immediately washing my hands right after.

If my cuticles get ragged, I use a hand cream that has AHA, BHA, or lactic acids, like AmLactin, AmLactin Ultra Smoothing, Gold Bond Rough and Bumpy Skin, or the Paula's Choice body lotions with AHA or BHA. Just like the acids exfoliate facial skin, they exfoliate the nail and cuticle area and help prevent hangnails. Make sure you use sunscreen on your hands if you use a cream with an AHA, BHA, or lactic acid.

If the eponychium is building up or hardening, that can be a reaction to cutting. With regular use of cuticle remover and AHA/BHA/lactic acid creams and cuticle oils, you can usually reverse that without cutting.

I have to cut mine because mine are not normal. Mine are very hard and stiff from a medical condition. I usually have to go to a wound care doctor and have them cut and debrided.

I keep mine pushed back & moisturized.

I use Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover.

Nothing special other than moisturizing them with an oil - whatever I have on hand. (I always have one or two.)

The trick, if there is one, is to massage it in over the cuticle and nail.

It doesn't remove the cuticle but it does give a cleaner look. Before a couple of my fingers had raggedy looking cuticles but not anymore since using this. It also removes any nail polish residue left around the cuticle. A 6 oz bottle lasts forever since I just dip a Q tip into the bottle. You can get it at Amazon or Sally's. Check out YouTube on how to u
