I bought a pair of self-piercing earrings and pierced my own ears back in 1972 right after I graduated high school. I've never had a problem. But I don't wear heavy earrings, never have. I tend to buy and wear only pure metals when it comes to earrings.

Try coating the post, where post is attached and the butterfly clutch w/ several coats of clear nail polish, so no exposed metal touches your ear...let dry between coats. Also put polysporin on post/wire before inserting earring. If it continues, I’d check with a derm. There may be a slight infection inside the ear piercing.

I’ve had pierced ears for many, many years, but noticed soreness when wearing certain posts. Came to the conclusion I’d been only wearing wires which are narrower and when I wore posts, which have a larger circumference, they made my earlobes ache. I had to get used to them again.

As we age there is loss of collagen and fat cells from every part on the body, including ear lobes. So what happens is the ear lobe becomes thinner with less structure and when you wear earrings the nerve endings become overly stimulated because there is not enough tissue surrounding them leading to discomfort and pain.

Try using those sticky things you place on the back of the ear lobe to get the support and avoid any kind of pulling.

I love to wear earrings. I had 'ear lobe rejuvenation' (w/o fillers) with a laser done by a derm. That gave me back smaller piercings and plumper lobes. Before that I was having a lot a pain and my piercings looked awfully stretched out that I didn't even want to wear earrings at all.

I put alcohol on a cotton ball and swipe it on my ear. I do this several times during a three or four hour period and the problem always goes away.

Perhaps this will help.....hope so.

I have had pierced ears for 50 years, wear earrings every day, but the holes seem to be closing up anyway. I had to toss all my post earrings with thicker posts and just wear the ones with thin posts. I also have pain after just a few hous with al.ost any hoops. I have no metal allergies but I am a fast healer. I had second holes pierced but couldn't keep those opened and they were completely gone in a few weeks. So, I'm dorry but your problem might be similar.

I definitely have/had this problem too. My ears were pierced when i was a baby. Late 40’s I started having the same issues. I would wear earrings and my ears lobes would get hard like they had a little Rocks where the hole was. After awhile I didn’t wear earrings and my piercings closed up. The weirdest thing. I just recently had my ears repierced. We will see how it goes. Never did figure out what caused it. It wasnt the type of metal that I can tell because I tried everything and I don’t wear costume jewelry.

Every day I would place

a anti-bacterial cream on the lobe & twist the stud several times

a day. About 2 weeks later...healed & I can wear all earrings

without pain. Fight through it! It will get better w/ time!

I used to have that problem. I thought it was a nickel allergy, and that might contribute but once I started wearing surgical steel or titanium and leaving them in 24/7 I no longer have a problem. I don’t wear anything but quality body jewelry now, not even actual gold in my ears. I can even sleep in hoops now. Part of it was not wearing earrings frequently enough that the holes would shrink just enough to wear they were smaller than the earring regardless of it was post or wire. I even had a second set of holes I quit wearing earrings in for more than 10 years and couldn’t get jewelry in. I had those stretched enough with an insertion taper so that I could get 18 gauge jewelry in and I’ve left earrings in 24/7 since that day more than 10years ago without further problems. Yes they were sore for the first couple weeks as they’d shrunk so much but have been fine since.

Just happened to me! I have a pair of real diamonds studs, but I'm allergic to the posts. I got swelled up, and I couldn't put a pierced earring through. I applied straight alcohol on a cotton ball for at least a week. Really soak the pierced opening, and soak your earrings as well. Mine healed nicely, and I'm able to wear my earrings...but I'm taking those diamond ones to the jeweler to make sure the posts are all really gold.
After you get healed...keep up with good hygiene by washing your pierced lobes thoroughly 2x daily, and cleaning all earrings. HTH'S

Coating the posts or wires with a coat of clear nail polish helps me with ones that are a problem. I used to get a special type of coating just for that purpose but can’t find anything like that anymore.

If they are already hurting out comes the neosporin!

eta - I just googled coating for earrings for sensitive ears and several options came up so I am going to get myself one of them!

Don't wear earrings at all for at least a couple of days and when you resume, wear them for only two to three hours. Gradually increase the amount of time you keep the earrings in. If you are still having pain, I would see someone.

The sticky things that @SilleeMee mentioned are something you may want to incorporate into your routine. The flat large ones such as "Lobe Wonder" are probably easier to find in drugstores and the smaller cushiony ones like "Bling Dots" are sold by HSN.
