Brown spots

Besides laser,

is their a topical remedy to appy on brown spots that does work? I have one sun spot on my cheek bone that I just hate. Probably from my childhood and 20 something years of not using sun protection and such.....did not know better in those days....

just curious if if anyone has Used something that worked.

@SeaMaiden I've been plaqued with hyperpigmentation on my face for several years now and nothing really worked until I started using Tretinoin (generic Retin A). It has helped greatly in fading my "spots" and my complexion has never been clearer.

@SeaMaiden I too had a few brown spots and took the advice of someone on these boards who suggested Glycolix Elite Treatment Pads, 20%. At the Overstock site you can get 60 pads for under $30. You use one a day. They have really helped lighten those spots on my face.

I've been using this brand for about three-four months. I noticed this morning when I was putting on makeup, that I don't have to put as much coverage in those areas.

If this product continues to lighten as it has up until now, my face should be free of those spots entirely by sometime this Fall.

There are, but they are all long-term products that take months to see results and require continued use to keep the spots faded. I've tried a few, but in my case, the products may work but I do not.

User error - user lacks committment and dedication to the task. I've never used a single spot fade product to completion. I decided to stop trying and save money - I clearly don't care enough to do it 1-2 times a day for months.

I second that for the Glycolix Elite 20% Pads. Give them some time and they work topically. I also say Retin-A works, too. Retin-A will deactivate the melanocytes (the little boogers that make brown spots) found inside the skin which will, in time, make brown spots go away from within.

A few years ago I had a small spot on my cheekbone. I used Clinique Specifically made for brown spots. I didn't expect it to work but it went away in 3 months never to return. I was surprised it worked.

Clinique Even Better brown spot remover..

@SeaMaiden I don’t have many spots except on left cheek there are several...hazard of driving. Yes, even w/ spf & tinted car windows. I use a Vit. C serum in the morning & PTR Peel Pads (that glycol acid is gentle & can be used every day)....At night, Retin A and my night cream ( with hydroxy acid) on alternating nights. I’ve noticed in the 2 months, the spots are substantially lighter to the point that they don’t bother me enough to cover them on no makeup days.

Hi see maiden! I too had lots of sun damage and an age spot on my right cheek for a long time. I used to use the Clinique age spot remover. Now , here is were it gets interesting. I am an RN who has had a few skin cancers. I KNOW what to look for. I was using the Clinique on the spot. One day , my derm said to me I want to biopsy it. Over 3 months and 2 non definitive diagnosis, the biopsy was sent to N YU where it came back as an early evolving melanoma in situ. There is a certain type of skin cancer that mimics sun or age spots. I am not telling you this to frighten you but just get it checked out to be on the safe side. My dermatologist was as surprised as anyone. By the way, I am totally fine ! Please- I hope you take my message in the spirit I have posted😊

Those 'spots' can be scary...I have a pretty good sized sun spot on my right cheek, then a mole decided to grow in the center of the spot....I have had the dermatologist look at it 2x and she assures me it's nothing serious, but I do watch it closely.

Can the products for the face be used on hands....my hands really show my age and I'd love to at least lighten those pesky spots.

Prescription Azelex is excellent for brown spots and prescription Tazorac, which is a retinoid, also helps.

@Mom2Dogs Never to late to begin. I’ve always used my skincare from hair line to bra line and then on hands.

@Shanus....I have always used good skin care but neglected to use sunscreen on my hands....they need some help.

I do have a funky looking mole that I will be having a recheck on with the dermatologist in July, maybe she can advise me of something I can use......

@Mom2Dogs I bet she’ll suggest Retin A and SPF. Most derms consider that the go to anti-aging duo.

@SeaMaiden There is a product on the market called Differin 1%. It is over the counter, no script needed. It's basically the same as prescription Retin A. I know many people that use it, that do not have a rx. If you buy it, go very slowly with it. You can find it in many drugstores and I think you can buy it from Amazon, although I do not like getting any creams or makeup from Amazon. I use Retin A, so I can't speak to it from my experience. Again, I know many people that do use it and it has helped them a lot with their spots.
