The only clients I see now are previous ones or friends of friends....like my jewelry business.

It’s funny, but I’ve been an artist most of my life. Whether it’s jewelry, painting, makeup, I don’t think I can ever be “former”. It’s just part of who I am.

@Shanus you had already answered before 😜

Still fun for you though to do friends and family I bet. Jewelry is better because you get to look at what you created for longer than a day or evening!

@Suebdoo Sorry. If you have to wear it, tap a few dots above your blush and if you’re over 25, stay away from the area that has crows’ feet, etc.

I personally prefer to use (on clients, not me), a beige or pink shimmer eye shadow...a much softer look and application is more difficult to over apply. You can purchase an inexpensive drugstore shadow if there isn’t one in your palette.

Also for those of us,like myself who at 55 still have combination skin and large pores It puts the spotlight on them . Many times they tell you to put in in your inner eye corners. I have darkness there and after trying that tip my inner corner darkness was so much more noticeable .

I also have combo skin and visible pores, but this doesn't emphasize them, nor does it make my t-zone look any oilier. I'm careful to avoid any areas with crepeiness.

Now, I completely agree with the putting highlighter in the inner eye corner...that is not a pretty look for me, either! Even the tiniest bit won't blend well and it does nothing for the darkness in that area.

Any where you highlight, draws attention to that area. That’s why women who have crepey lids should stay away from sparkly shadows, too. The same goes for makeup that has a very dewey finish. It will exaggerate pores.

If the client insists, I let them know that I only do it in a natural, almost invisible way. That’s usually what they want anyway...on their own, they go overboard.

Because I use different mu lines & not selling products, I’m not obligated to “push” contouring w/ a certain bronzer, overly done eyes so I can sell a shadow palette, liners, mascara & other items the client doesn’t need. I’d much rather show them how to achieve a better look w/ products similar to what they may already own. Then if they ask to purchase the navy liner I used, that’s OK.

There are times that require heavier makeup...photo shoots, fashion shows, etc. I can still do contouring/highlighting...in a natural way. The key is lots of blending and starting w/ a tiny bit and building as you blend.

For oily complexions, I tend to use a slightly shimmered eye shadow to highlight & a powder bronzer...always matte. For drier skin types, I use a stick highlighter...easier to apply.
