you must remove your makeup before using the Clarisonic; I have used one for years....I did find if I used it twice a day I was getting broken capillaries....now I just use it once a day; I am in my 60's so I think morning and night was too much. Now I use it at night after taking off my makeup. Using it with your makeup on would really be bad for your skin....

I love my Clarisonic and use it nightly AFTER I cleanse to remove makeup. If you watch the models’ demos, they’re grinding the makeup into their pores by using the Clarisonic first.

The idea is to clean out your pores, not push more dirt into them.

Your thoughts?

I agree. I iuse mine twice a day. In the morning, directly on my face since there is no makeup on . However, at night, i first remove all my makeup and then use my clarisonic.

I also make sure that I clean the brush and towel dry before charging. Every week, I try to clean under the brush with alcohol.

I've also had to stop using the Clairisonic, I've had two of them, one for home use and another for travel. Sad to say both are now in my no longer used drawer. As you mentioned and if you have large pores it pushes the dirt and makeup in further.

My skin was breaking out and since I've stopped using it, all is well.

Now, I use Cetaphil gentle cleanser and a very lush soft cotton cloth to cleanse my skin, with luke warm water.

I’m fairly sure the Clarisonic can’t push dirt into pores if your face is clean. I’d try using different cleansers to be sure your skin is super clean before using Clarisonic.

BTW, if your skin isn’t properly cleansed, even a wash cloth can push dirt into enlarged pores. Those enlarged pores are also an issue to address.

For my nighttime makeup removal/face cleansing, I always use a product such as Clinique's Take The Day Off makeup remover or DHC Olive Cleansing Oil before moving to step 2 using the Clarisonic with a bit of a cleanser such as Purity or CeraVe on the brush. After more than ten years of using a Clarisonic this has been an effective method for me. I never use the Clarisonic for morning cleansing because that is when I often use scrubs and masks.

Well, yes they can, and I do clean my face properly. Many of us have large pores, it happens quite frequently as one get older and after years of using make up and beauty products.

I always remove my make-up before using my Clarisonic, always.

In addition, I never use it on my lips. Lisa, the vendor for Clarisonic, kept mentioning this morning that you should (not just "can" but should) use it on your lips as well. It was the first time I heard that in all the many presentations over the years. I think the proliferation of lip scrubs in the market recently is making vendors say anything for a sale.

There are many others that clean out pores, as well. Unfortunately, it’s trial and error. I’m not a fan of anything Philosophy.

The foaming agent has nothing to do w/ the effectiveness of cleaning out pores. In fact, those can be quite drying.

If the pores are that congested, you may want to consult your dermatologist for a prescription strength product. It’s not only just a cleanser, but what you should or should not be applying afterwards. Bring your skincare products so he/she can see exactly what you’re using....foundations, spf, too. One or more of these may be clogging pores no matter how well you’re cleansing.

Many women try to get a facial for deep pore cleansing. Unless this is done at a medi spa, they cannot do extractions (clear out black heads, etc. w/ a cutting instrument) and if not in a medical environment, they do a hard sell for the products they carry.

Even medi spas carry skin care. Do not purchase anything. Request sample sizes to see how your skin reacts. If they don’t have samples...their loss. The products are too expensive to purchase full sizes, have irritation or have them not work.

Lastly, your cleanser may not be the issue. You may be cleaning the pores and then using skin care that’s too rich that may clog them again. SPFs can be heavy/thick.

Always, always, ALWAYS double cleanse! I cringe every time I see that demo removing the makeup from their faces - I'm certain the models know to cleanse again, but it's the average unassuming consumer I'm concerned about. I know its for demonstration purposes, but still...

I have and LOVE my clarisonic for well over 18 years now and my skin is better for it.

I only use mine once a day at night. My first step is to use a cleansing wipe to remove as makeup as possible. Then I use my Clarisonic. I don't want all of that makeup in my brush. Once or twice a week, I cleanse my brush with Dawn dish soap. That cleans better than anything that I have tried.

Not always. Cetafil, a gentle thorough cleanser does not foam. Many gel cleansers that contain AHA or other acids do not have to foam. The foaming agent has nothing to do w/ the effectiveness of cleaning out pores. In fact, those can be quite drying.

@Shanus

Thanks, you must have me confused with another poster. I did not advocate the use of AHA or gel cleaners. I do know they do not have to foam.

My dermatologist does not share your opinion that foaming cleansers have nothing to do with with effectiveness of cleansing pores. At his recommendation I use a mild foaming cleanser and my skin is great.
