Help! Frizz!

Summer is here and so is my hair frizz problem. I have coarse, colored, dry hair.

Has anyone tried the anti frizz hairsprays? There is a Living Proof one on sale at the Q but I had terrible results from the original Living Proof products. These, of course, are newer, and may be different.

Oribe has a very expensive one on sale at Amazon but aerosol products cannot be returned.

I spend a pretty penny on my hair at the salon but then it all goes up in frizz come summer.

Good luck. I have the same problem. Living Proof does absolutely nothing, and it’s more expensive than most other hair products. I tried their entire line for frizzy hair. The only thing that ever helped my frizz was getting a Keratin treatment, but that is also expensive. For the last two years, I have just slicked my hair back with Softee Indian Hemp during the summer months, and throw on a cute little summer hat.

I feel your pain!

I have fine curly frizzy hair. The new line by L'Oreal "Elvive" has really helped me. I use the type for damaged hair and then I use a product called "It's a 10" spray on keratin treatmemt. My hair is far from perfect but it's so, so, so much better.

Best part...all drug store products and the L'Oreal you can always find coupons for.

Is your hair damaged from too much lightening/ bleaching? Do you remember when is wasn’t as bleached and also not as frizzy? If so, try deep conditioning hair mask until the damage grows out. Talk to your colorist about it.

A few other suggestions I follow ( I am also blessed with coarse, High porous hair , difficult too, that is very frizz-prone) :

If hair is dry, wash it less. I wash mine once a week with a contioning cleanser (I use Wen but I here are many others now) - But never wash it with a stripping sulfate shampoo. You want to keep your hair super moisturized and the cuticle protected to decrease frizz. Every time you wash it with regular shampoo, the cuticle opens up and moisture gets in ... (causing frizz). When you wash it less, the cuticle stays protected by the natural oils.

Also, experiment with layering products, just a bit of each. I use Tweak-D anti frizz spray, and it’s great. Also Look up the LOC method for layering products ( use a little bit at a time).

I am doing all these things and see minimal to no frizz now. Hope it helps! Skye-

I have the same issue, and nothing, I mean NOTHING ever helped much until I got a Pravana Smoothing treatment at my salon.

I did an at home Keratin treatment one time, and it wasn't bad, but the Pravana product seemed to last longer.

The stylist puts it on, lets your hair dry, flat irons it and then you sit for a bit and she washes it out. At that point, she can color your hair. The process strips out some color, so you likely will want to get it put back in.

After that, I have very smooth hair for a couple of months. In the winter, it lasts longer (no humidity).

I've had it done many times and really enjoy not fighting the frizz.

I have fine hair and there has been no damage.

Frizzy hair! Oh, man --- I feel your pain! Unfortunately, I don't have many solutions.

I look around at all the women in my office and hardly a one has this problem. I am convinced that just some of us are lucky enough to be afflicted with this and others aren't!

I have tried the 10 and Living Proof and a lot of other stuff and it did not help me at all.

For me, what works the most is not washing hair as much, conditioning a lot, and adding on exra oil after I wash. I have hair slightly past my shoulders and I have been adding oil after I condition and combing it through, then braiding it and sleeping with it this way. It seems to make it behave better and allows the oil to penetrate thoroughly.

I also think using shampoos and conditioners without sulfates and parabens helps a bit. And as needed, there is a Fructis product which is like a cream, which is Anti-humidity, that seems to help calm it down as well.

When all else fails, I pull it back in a low pony or braid and add cream or oil!

In the John Frieda Frizz Ease Line there are many good products to help with that problem. His Secret Weapon Touch Up Cream works nicely rubbed between your palms then smoothed over dry hair to combat those frizzies. You can find his line at a lot of places, Walgreens, CVS, Target, Ulta etc. Not all stores carry the full line of Frizz Ease because there are quite a lot but you can check it out on-line how many products he has to combat frizz. And the prices are very reasonable if you don't want to or can't afford to spend to try the costlier Wen at this time. That Touch Up Cream was is in the neighborhood of $7 or $8 last time I bought it.

Right now I am fighting the urge to do a Keratin hair straightening. I do it every May and it works wonders. Lasts through September. But in September my hair is a mess, for about 2 months. I tried Living Proof and it did nothing for me. Hot Tresses shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in did take some of the frizz away. I have been reading really good reviews about the It's A Ten keratin spray.

I'm like every single one of you! I'm convinced there is not one product out there that works for me. I've tried them all. I joke that hair companies need ME to try their products before they tout them as anti-frizz. My hair is short. Not pixie short, but short enough that I can not put it up so no life-saving ponytail for me. I'm a slave to my hair! The most recent product I'm trying is WOW. It's in a silver package that kind of resembles a flask. It's a spray. Can't say it's amazing. I've used Wen, a lot of L'Oreal products, the Fructis line, and a bunch of Pantene things. Let me add that I live in Florida so that is of no help!! I've thought about doing a professional straightening, but I always think the less I do to my hair the better. If I had to pick and choose processes to do to my hair to keep it in the best possible condition, I have to stick with coloring it (tons of gray) instead of chemically striaghtening. Is it the end of the world? No. Just very, very annoying. I know you all understand what I'm saying! Enjoy the day!!

I use leave in conditioner. No specific brand, whatever catches my eye at the drug store. I prefer a spray on.

@lavendar, I love Tigi S Factor Smoothing Lusterizer. My hair is dry, wavy, very thick and in the summer months frizz can be an issue for me. This product really tames my hair and it smells like strawberries. I buy mine from Ulta.

Thanks! I'm already doing many things suggested. I use Morocanoil shampoo. Sulfate free. I also use WEN styling cream and WEN CC as a leave in. I use a WOW product on wet hair and oil my hair. Can't find my WEN smoothing serum. Will order it again.

I only wash it once a week and sleep on a silk pillowcase.. I do torture my hair: color and highlights. I now only highlight it twice a year. Also I was very sick about a year ago and had shedding. Was in the hospital three weeks and the clorox in the bed linen sucked all the moisture out of my hair and left it damaged. It did grow back really well.

When I'm desperate I can get a salon shampoo and blow dry. The flat iron hides all sins.

My colorist doesnt want me to do keratin treatments. He's been coloring my hair over twenty years and knows it well.

My hair was always coarse and dry. I just replaced the heat cap I used in high school. i just turned seventy five. I had healthy virgin hair but it was dry. I used to wear my hair very short so it was always getting cut as it came in. I

I did read the WEN thread. That's why I started one here.

I will write down the products you mention.

I could cut it a few inches shorter; it's in a bob. Or grow it long enough to put in a small pony. I wear hats all summer to protect my color.

I will make a list of products mentioned. I have a HUGE CVS near me.

Story: Years ago I was sitting outside with a friend and her four year old grandson. The humidity was near 100%. I noticed child was staring at me. He said," You're hair is growing." I said,"Yes, I can make it grow because I have special hair. It's magic."

I have no magic for helping "special hair."

Personally, I've had excellent frizz control with Wen products, but everyone's hair is different.

My hair used to be a wild mane of frizz when I was younger, but hormones & age have straightened it out quite a bit. Now, it still has quite a bit of natural wave & body to it, but it's kind of fly-away & staticky since I live in AZ & the air is dry. I used to use a leave-in that was a Kirkland Signature product from Costco & it would provide just the right amount of conditioning without weighing it down or making it greasy & stringy, but it's no longer available.

I still have a bit of the Costco stuff, but have been on a quest to find something that works like it. These are the products that I've tried lately, some I got in travel sizes from Amazon to try before I committed to a full size:

Unite 7Seconds Leave-In Detangler (like)

It's A 10 Miracle Leave-In (a bit too heavy for me & don't care for the smell of it)

Aveeno Nourish+Condition Leave-in Treatment (It's OK)

John Masters Organics Citrus & Neroli Detangler (OK & it smells nice)

Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Olive Oil Styling Creme (like)

Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum (came in yesterday's mail & tried for the 1st time this morning & so far, I like it)

My hair is probably not like most folks' in that all I want is something light to tame the fly-aways & I don't use a lot of products, just shampoo in the morning & blow dry it & let it do what it will since having curly hair all my life, I never really learned to style my hair! I gave up the battle years ago & just get a decent haircut & let it fall where it wants to!

It's a 10 Blow Dry Styling Balm

It runs about 20 bucks for a 5 oz. tube, but you don't need much so it lasts a long time.

@lavendar Make sure you are drying or blotting your hair with a t-shirt or something similar. Never use a regular towel. That change alone reduced my frizz significantly. Also with curly or wavey hair, don't touch it while it's drying it you are air drying it.

Yes, frizz is my bane also. The best I have found for taming mine is Deva Poo Decadance Cleansing Conditioner and them my HG, Carol's Daughter Hair MIlk, Styling Pudding, applied to my damp hair after cleansing. Then I let it air dry. If I use a hair dryer I look like the Bride of Frankenstein, lol.
