topic Tried and True Strategies for Epilating and Preventing Ingrown Hairs- Yay, it’s working! in Beauty

So I was Loving epilating and did not want to stop. I am very hairy ( what luck) and with very bristly razor stubble. Epilating allowed me to decrease hair amounts and the regrowth isn’t nearly as bristly- But the longer I was epilating, the more I started getting lots of bumps and deep ingrown hairs. I was ready to stop altogether, so instead I tried some new strategies and it’s working!

First, I epilate in the same direction as the hair growth, not opposite. Although you get better grab in the opposite direction, it yanks the hair and damages the tiny tunnel the hair grows through to the surface, which gives the new upcoming hair trouble, hence... ingrowns -

Second, I bought a plastic spiky exfoliating brush from Ama... ( very cheap, brand is Meili) , that you use in a circular motion for a few seconds all over the area,on most days. This loosens any embedded hairs so they find the tunnel to the surface.

Also, I bought some Gold Bond, Rough and Bumpy, which exfoliates the skin surface- works great on my Keratosis Pilaris too (more good luck), lol...

Ive been epilating weekly for a month and 0 zero ingrown hairs, happy happy! I guess this is some extra work, but worth it to me!

I hope this helps... your friend, Skyegirl

There’s a product called Tend Skin made just for ingrown hairs. I’ve never tried it but it’s been around for years.

@KrissyE wrote:

There’s a product called Tend Skin made just for ingrown hairs. I’ve never tried it but it’s been around for years.

It has and it's awesome. But it's also no cheap and it's mostly for ingrown hairs and irritation. It's main ingredient is acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin). The Gold Bond Rough and Bumpy cream has salicylic acid, which does the same basic thing - chemical exfoliation. The Rough and Bumpy cream much less expensive per ounce and also moisturize and smooths the skin, which is nice.

I used to use Tend Skin and it works really well. I think the Rough and Bumpy Cream is also a good solution. It works pretty well on my Keratosis Pilaris, which is what it was created for, and I never thought about it for ingrown hair. Pretty clever!
