The jury is still out for me regarding how good matrixyl is (on many levels). I stopped with retinol and us Alph-Beta Glycolic Peel pads daily and my skin responded faster and with BETTER results than it ever did with using retinol. I think there are many other products out there but you need to experiment with them and that, sadly, costs money.

So, to answer your question: Unless I was having issues with retinol, I would not switch to Matrixyl unless I had some compelling evidence to do so. Good luck with your decision!

The answer is no. Retinol is the gold standard in antiaging skincare. It should not be replaced by anything else. Retinol has a several proven benefits to using it. If anything, you can supplement your routine by adding other products along with the use of retinol.

@Dazlin, I can't use retinol. I do use a Matrixyl serum and have for some time now. I don't know that it is a substitute. It is the only advanced skincare product.in my regimen.

I buy mine from NCN Professional Skincare. It has all three of the versions of Matrixyl plus other good ingredients. Nanci the owner is having one of her best discounts until the end of this month. Buy one product and get another for 50 percent off.

There have been studies done on both.

Every now and then I re-evaluate my own use of retinol. So far, I've ended up with the same conclusion: that if it is still effective for me, (and it is) then why change?

I've used Matrixyl 2x over the course of some years.

Retinol and retinoids are very different. There is a lot of info on the internet if you do a search on both terms. I use Retin A (a retinoid) and I also use matriixyl (both in the evening). I'm not sure if using both is making a difference, but I using RetinA over the last 20 years had definitely made a good difference in the texture of my skin.

Excerpt from one of the sites I looked at:

'Retinoids, compared to retinol, are more powerful and can provide results in a shorter time frame. However, depending on the type of retinoid and its level of potency, they may irritate sensitive skin.'

Thanks, JLF,...fragrance doesn't bother me at all.

Looks like retinol is gonna win here. I haven't yet decided if I'll go back to Consult Beaute, or try this. I gotta say...most of Consults products have made a nice difference in my skin. Always looking for the next best thing☺
