(I use her too, but I also use other stuff. Don't ask what I spend on skin care.) I also test on my hand first, not for the color match as my hands are slightly darker, but for the texture. The skin on my face is pretty good too. My hands are not bad, but not as smooth on my facial skin. And it is easy for me to see them. So, if foundation makes my hands look bad, it's not going near my face! I will take care to avoid that Westmore, LOL.

I've never been one to wear foundation, normally tinted moist and a powder over it

But lately my face have looks a little shiny after 8 hours or so and it looks like I have NO coverage. It's time to move to a foundation (I am 46)

I see so many women with foundation and their skin look so nice, almost like a nice glow without being shiny and imperfections are almost unnoticiable. I would love to know how they acheive this or how I can acheive this. What foundation would you recommend I try or what types should I be looking for.

I've tried primers many times and break out (I normally do not break out but ever primer I have tried breaks me out) so if I can avoid that I would like to.

Can you help point me in a direction to start looking?

I wear Laura Geller primer under the foundation. If I don't do that the foundation disappears....go figure!

If you looked at me...my face...you'd NEVER guess that I wear the lightest color you can order.

You'd guess the medium color. But the lightest color works for me. I still don't understand it.

I think people should try different colors they might be surprised too.

I have tried a lot of different foundations, always the lightest color works.

I've found them all to be pretty much the same but my favorite is IT foundation. It stays on and covers the few brown spots I have on my face.

You might start with IT CC Cream, the original one not the illumination. It is quite natural and has great sunscreen!

I would also suggest stopping into a Nordstroms, if you have one near you. They are great about giving out samples of foundations to try! Formulas are different based on the look you want. Ulta is helpful for me too.

The foundations I use are in no particular order, some are spendy some are drugstore:

Rimmel Lasting Finish ( love to mix this with Shiseido Synchro Skin)

Shiseido Syncro Skin

Wet n Wild PhotoFocus Foundation

It CC Cream

Pur Minerals 4-in-1 Powder Foundation

Just some ideas, some might work for you!

Depends on what you want — powder or liquid foundation? Primer below or not?

In the winter months I wear Lancôme Tient Idole liquid foundation or Urban Decay Naked Skin liquid foundation. In the summer months I wear powder foundation like Lancôme Dual Finish or Bare Minerals Pro Foundation.

Today I visited a Sephora to see if they had the new Smashbox Cover Shot eyeshadow palette Punked (they didn’t) so I had the MU artist apply a new liquid foundation I wanted to try — NARS Sheer Glow liquid foundation. I had 2 in my hand & she did half my face in one shade & half in the other. We determined one shade looked better over the other. Mind you I had no primer on but just sunscreen today on. The MU artist also gave me a small container of the one that looked the best on me to try at home.

I returned to the car in natural lighting & saw that the color shade I had on was correct — not too white or yellow or orange.

So even though this is time consuming, it’s best to try in the store & ask for samples to try at home.

BTW I would definitely consider this one after I finish the Tient Idole bottle.

I also tried the NARS liquid blush in Orgasm color. It looked good but it reminded me of a blush combined with a highlighter. It was a nice change for me since I usually wear blush with highlighter above it.

It's particularly a problem underneath the eyes because my eye makeup has a tendency to wander.

Also, how would you deal with the fact that it doesn't come with a pump. I really don't like that, but I do like the finish from looking at some reviews. One girl put on WAY too much in my opinion, but by the middle and end of the day it didn't look so bad. I tend to use minimal amount. One pump would be plenty for my entire face.

They usually recommend at least 10 or so, then you can talk to the mua and see what she/he thinks. They will gladly give you samples to try. There is NO obligation to purchase. That will give you an idea.

@Icegoddess. I didn’t find it tacky at the Sephora store after use. I did read about there being no pump on the bottle (a $6 additional cost from NARS). I tend to maybe use 3 pumps of the Tient Idole to cover my face below my eyes. I told the MU artist, no foundation on my forehead — have bangs so not needed.

I probably would buy it but would transfer to the Tient Idole bottle which has a pump & a clear cap to place over it. NARS sells the pump but the cap doesn’t fit over the pump so as some reviewed can be a problem when traveling.

Even DH says it looked natural on me when I got home. I also seeing it now at night after it being on since the mid afternoon, it hasn’t budged or faded. I have some broken capillaries on my chin area for which generally concealer hides. This foundation hid them well w/o me using a concealer as an additional step. I just looked in the bathroom mirror & there is a very faint red area (capillary) just starting to show through.

Only thing I can say negatively besides the lack of a pump is there is no sunscreen in it. So if you want a foundation with sunscreen, you may have to find another product. I only had sunscreen on today before I walked into Sephora.

It was fun to try something new that I’d been curious about trying.

Yes, I forgot to mention about the lack of SPF. One of the reviewers considered it a plus because apparently sunscreen causes strange things to happen in flash photography? I don't know; I don't get my picture taken that often.

I currently rotate between Doll10 Hydra Lux, Doll10 HydraGel, and a combination of iT CC+ and Tarte BB creams depending on how I feel. I think the iT is the only one that has an SPF in it. I'm not really sure how much it really matters for me since I really don't even wear foundation on a daily basis. But, it would be a selling point for me. I really like the finish of the ones I'm using, kinda like skin only better, but it looks like the NARS product gives a nice airbrushed finish which I might really like for church and special activities.

I also have broken capilaries on my cheeks, but I don't find that any of the above actually covers them at least with the amount that I wear. Maybe I should try using more or seeing if I could add more to my cheeks.

We have a mini Sephora. I wonder if they carry it, or maybe Ulta? I'd like to see about getting color matched and get some samples since things always seem different at home than in the store.

BB and CC creams make me an oil slick, and they stay tacky. I would first start with L'Oreal True Match. I get good coverage and it's buildable, does not make me oily after many hours. During the winter the True Match Lumi works better for me.

You didn't say what type of skin you have, but ... I almost always wear MAC Matchmaster foundation. I find it works well with dry/combination skin. My finishing powder is also MAC - Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. For brown spots, broken capillaries and little breakouts I use Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer (Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear). You don't need to use much of these products to get results. But they all have good coverage IMO.

Primers, I do like the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores, it works well for me. I also like Clinique Pep-start Hydroblur moisturizer.

Good luck with your search.

I am far from a "foundation expert" but I'll tell you what works for me. I understand you don't want to use primer, but I do use Spackle misturizing. I use Josie Maron concealer crayon - love this product. I have one sunspot on my rt temple and this totally hides it, dark circles under my eyes also almost disappear, and I use it on my "marionette" lines to soften and lighten them. I use L'Oreal true match foundation over that - either the powder (daily use) or the liquid when getting dressed up to go somewhere special. I am very careful not to use too much powder because that is when you see it caking in ladies wrinkles. I apply it very lightly with a kabuki brush just to give a finished look.

@SandGirl, my suggestion is to go to Sephora where they can match your skin type and tone to their array of foundations. Plus you can give some input as to what type of look you want to achieve. Their associates don't work for any particular company so they won't try to push a certain line. One works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. You will get so many suggestions here that your head will spin. Wishing you much luck.
