I'm 59 years old with a chin length bob. My hair is quite thick and naturally wavy, but not curly. When I blow it dry it straightens, but lacks pizzazz.

Can anyone recommend electric rollers that will leave my hair bouncy but smooth?

Thank you.

@house_cat

This sounds exactly like my hair! I use Clairol Kindness electric rollers(circa 1970's)They are the best! I've used other, newer ones but did not get as good results. These give my hair body after blow drying, give it some shine, some curl and keeps it smooth and straight at the same time. There's a thread on here titled, "so speaking of old time shampoo and products", where it's discussed. One of the posters(@lovestoteach)said you can still get them on Ebay and she posted pictures. I'm on my tablet and don't know how to post links with it.(sorry)😉

starpolisher, that's so funny. I own about 7 sets of electric rollers and the Clairol Kindness set from way back is my favorite too. I have long hair and the flocked curlers only give me a limp curl that falls out very soon. You are taking about the plastic rollers with the teeth, right?

I had two of the Lady Schick hot roller sets from back in the '70s. I also had a bunch of extra rollers because my hair is thick and curly. They were the bomb. I'd put the rollers in my hair, drive to work, and take the rollers out while in the parking lot.

Now I use a Revlon 1 1/2 inch hot air brush. Blow my hair about 3/4 dry, then finish with the hot air brush. 1200 watts is plenty hot. It gives me a smooth curl that lasts.

I just helped a friend find some from the 60s-70s by GE that are wax core and get super hot. Her set died and we went on a hunt. We got two sets on ebay that look brand new, but we had to wait until they were there. I personally have the set from QVC by Calista. They continue to heat after you take them out of the holder. I have super thick hair, 4.75" ponytail circumference. When I had a bob, I got her long hair set that are twice the length of regular rollers. I can use 12 in my hair and get it pretty well done, but regular rollers would take 24 or more.

Instead of the teeth, foam or any other gripper on the roller,

I relied on the clips for hold.

When I retired my hot rollers, I would blow-dry my shorter hair &

when it was still warm, I would use those smooth plastic

rollers (Walmart) & hold them using these clips.

Gave a nice finished fullness w/out the hot rollers.

These are what I used:

Conair is reliably good and affordable. Easily available from Ulta or Walmart. I’ve used them for many years! They’re the best! Makes hair styling for fine, straight hair really easy.
