Does Cerave cleanser really clean the face?

I stopped using Cetaphil because it seemed to not cleanse the face well. Fans of Cerave, do you find it to be a thorough cleanser?

I tried both Cerave and Cetaphil a few years ago , before I went cruelty free and I found that neither removed my makeup . I have combination acne prone skin and they are always recommended by derms , beauty editors, etc but I had no luck with them . I use a light coverage of mineral powder or serum base and neither one removed it . Even after serveral rinses my skin felt slightly filmy .

I like you, feel that Cetaphil does not clean my face completely. I am now using Cerave and it cleans much better but totally clean, no. I don't like using harsh cleansers and I have tried sooo many. Lotions, creams, balms and oils. I liked Paula's Choice Moisture Boost One Step Face Cleanser, the old formula. They have brought it back so I may go back to that one. Check it out.

I use Cerave hydrating cleanser. For me it does the job of removing all of my facial and eye makeup plus anything else like sunscreen and serums. I do believe that what you apply the Cerave on, a cloth or cleansing device of some sort, does make a difference in how well it will clean your face. I use a sonic silicone cleansing brush then finish wiping with a microfiber cloth. My face feels clean afterwards and not stripped.

I use it with my Clarisonic, which pretty much makes anything a thorough cleanser. But I also don't wear much makeup and am most concerned with removing dirt, oil, and sunscreen.

Cerave is not a good makeup remover. If I wear makeup, I use a makeup remover cloth first or do a double-cleanse - an oil-based makeup remover and then the Cerave with the Clarisonic.

I used to use Cerave until they sold out. I now use La Roche Posay and I LOVE it!! NO parabens. Same price as Cerave and great ingredient deck!

Cetaphil does not remove make-up at all. I use it every morning when I have nothing on my face but I don't use it at night.

I recently bought the Cerave for normal to dry skin and I thought I'd also be using it in the morning. I tried it last night for the first time and much to my surprise, it removed all of my make-up, including my eye make-up.

I did nothing special but put it on my dry face and used a washcloth to remove. I followed with a toner and my cottonball was completely clean.

I use the CeraVe foaming cleanser and it gets my face really clean but I do take off my makeup first, with a cleansing oil.

I just discovered this a few months ago and I love it. I was switching between Mario Badescu, Cerave and END cleansing oil and I'm sticking to La-Roche. Removes everything, is non drying and reasonably priced.

I also want to mention anytime I wash my face I apply my cleanser on dry skin first. Rub it around before adding water. This is the best method for me and I never have a problem with makeup removal.

I don't use a heavy foundation other than the IT CC cream. Cetaphil or Cerave do not remove my makeup. I always remove my makeup before using Cerae or PTR or any other type of cleanser.

I worked part time, years ago at Clinique. We were always trained to have customers use a makeup remover before any face wash. The cleansers, for the most part, do not cut through foundation well. Traces are left.

No, I don't think it totally does the job. I, like many of you probably, was recommended these products by my derm. They are gentle and i need that, but I find that if I'm wearing foundation, powder, etc, these products don't remove all of this. I actually don't know what to use as a makeup remover that is not harsh. I have been using these skin cleansing cloths that I found at CVS and they seem to do a decent job. As far as eye makeup, which I don't wear a lot of or often, I either use Simple eye makeup remover pads or Clinique.

As far as applying these cleansers to a dry face, I had never heard of that? All the products usually say to wet the face first.

When I cleanse using these products, I always wet my face well and really rub the product and rinse a lot. Maybe I should be using a face cloth to remove as this would also act as an exfoliant?

I've never wet my face first no matter what cleanser I'm using but I always use a washcloth to remove. I put three pumps of the Cerave in my hand, rub it around then I stick my hands under running water and rub the cleanser into my face some more. That's all the water I use.

I use a foundation, bronzer, blush, full eye make-up and this Cerave gets it all off with nothing else being used prior. Of course make-up/skincare counters are going to tell people they need to use a make-up remover first because that's another product they can sell. If a cleanser isn't going to remove my make-up, it's the wrong cleanser.

@Alison Wonderland I use a cleanser that removes makeup. I don’t think Cerave or Cetaphil can do a great job. When my skin feels very dry, Cetaphil is my morning cleanser since just moisturizer to remove.

I found the Cerave Foaming Cleanser to be a bit drying but it did clean off my makeup rather well. I switched to using the Cerave Hydrating Cleanser and although it didn't dry out my face, it did not do as good of a job at removing makeup. I still have a half bottle of the foaming cleanser and I'm going to mix the hydrating cleaner with it...about half n half...and see how that goes.

I have used 3 of the CeraVe cleansers ( Hydrating, Foaming, and SA) and was underwhelmed by all of them. I ended up using each one as a hand wash until I finished them up. I like other CeraVe products, but the cleansers are meh.

I find I have to double cleanse to get my skin clean - a cleansng oil followed by something slightly foamy. I tend to get Shiseido, Tatcha, or Origins cleansers, because they work well for me, but also love Avéne cleansers too.

I guess you are using water just wetting your hands instead of your face and the use of a washcloth I'm sure helps wth the cleansing process. I might try your method and see how it works! I agree with you about having to use multiple products for cleansing.

The Cerave foaming cleanser does a thorough job for me, and I don't use any special tools. I don't use long-wearing makeup, which could make a difference. Sometimes a mascara is a little stubborn. In that case I massage a drop of cleanser over my eye and it comes off.
