DOUBLE CLEANSING

Do any of you remove your makeup w/ a cleanser and then wash your face again?

I was speaking w/ a friend today who said she does this every night and I’d be shocked how much extra “stuff” comes off on a white washcloth.

Just washed and showered (half time)....tried the double cleanse: Removed makeup as usual w/ my Bobbi Brown oil, rinsed, etc. Then I cleansed again w/ my Cetaphil gentle cleanser. Most of what I missed was around my hair line and neck area behind ears where I put the tinted spf so it showed up the 2nd cleanse.

OMG! You can teach old dogs new tricks!

@Shanus This is part of the Asian multi-step skincare routine. Many will use a cleansing oil first and follow up with a foaming cleanser at night. I consider my PM cleansing to be a 2-step process but it's modified. I'll start with either a cleansing wipe or micellar water on a cotton pad to get the surface dirt and makeup off. Then I follow up with a cleansing oil - rub that all over my dry face add water to turn it into a milk and use my Foreo Luna dupe. Rinse well, pat dry, and follow up with my treatment products and moisturizer.

I take my eye makeup off with an eyemakeup remover pad then use SKINN cleansing cloth then I wash my face with Paul Mitchell Tea Tree soap.

I do cleanse twice. I use a foaming cleanser followed by micellar water, or foaming cleanser plus a bit of cleansing powder followed by micellar water.

I've tried so many methods. My mother-in-law had beautiful skin, and used a cleansing cream in the evening. I recently tried this, and had breakouts by the 4th day. I then used Purity after the cleansing cream on day 5, and was also shocked at my washcloth.

BB is a great oil.

BBrown was my 1st oil cleanser.. good quality..

However I can't double cleanse, I see why people do but my skin is way too dry now [post menopause - yuk] I've tried several x's to double wash but it strips my skin raw, it gets squeaky clean with simply using oils. I hear you about getting residual makeup off but it's not worth it for me. I never breakout from my 1st oil cleanse and my skin is pretty good so far. I'm have a Mia [sitting here doing nothing] I wish I was loving this device but even with the most gentle brush head it was just too much, harsh.

EDIT: I Do however use a facial wipe or micellar wipe now that these are on the market then use my oil cleanser but always separate eye makeup remover! eye makeup remover but no soap/detergent type 2nd type cleanser..guess this doesn't count as a 2nd cleanse but seems good for moi (but not by Asian cleansing standards!)

I always wash my face twice. Once to remove makeup and then again to clean off anything that I might have missed. I have done it this way since I was a young teenager. Just want to make sure my face is really clean before I put on my moisturizer for the night.

I double cleanse w/Erno Laszlo system and have been doing so for years.

I do use Skinn cloths.

I have double cleansed my whole life. I have never felt like everythng was removed the first time.

I use a makeup remover--micellar water or wipes or clinique cleansing oil. Then I use PTR facial liquid soap or Cerave.

Soaps and cleansers do not remove makeup. One must remove the makeup first.

Before I used a remover, I'd always have a lot of foundation left on my cotton pad when I used my clinique clarifying lotion. It proved I wasn't cleansing properly.

Every night! I use the Skinn cleansing cloths to take off my make up, including eye make up. Then I use a cleaning cream or oil to actually CLEAN my face. I don't feel like it's clean without doing that step.

I wash my face once - use soap , water and a regular washcloth.I'm confident it is clean after that. If I did not use soap I would not feel I had gotten the sunscreen off completely and that stuff is not something I'd want to leave on my skin.

Yes, I do this as a matter of course - in the p.m., even though I don't wear foundation makeup. Lately, though, I've just changed some of the cleansing things I use.

Yes to double cleans. First with oil cleanser, then with exfoliant or Beekman 1802 pure goat milk soap.

I just use oil cleaners on tough makeup/sunblock days and on days I don't I just use an effective face wash for dry/normal skin. It works for me.

@mimi5775. Have you tried the Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser (drugstore) that I used last night. I keep it on hand to cleanse on no mu days and it is very easy on the skin...no dryness or tight feeling after. Nights I use glycolic pads, the next morning...Cetaphil. Just a suggestion.

@maestra I haven’t seen Erno Lazlo in my area for many years. A boutique (long closed) used to sell it. Available at any dept. stores?

I don't, I wash my face with DOVE facial cleanser. I don't use a whole lot of makeup on my face. I don't use eyeliner or shadow or blush. Just a light foundation, a touch of mascara and some lip gloss. It all comes off but if I think I'd do this double cleansing thing if I used a whole lot of stuff on my face.

I went back to edit my post to ya...I had said just now I do use a nice cleansing wipe 1st, then my oil cleanser.

I use a lactic acid peel cream every other day or so and a gentle peel.

Cetaphil is very good - derms always recommend it.

I'm good with the regime I am on so far, my skin is not ultra dry just dry. I think I am pretty clean with the cleansing oil[s] I use.

I only get dry when double cleanse if wearing tough makeup as my skin feels too tight/squeaky clean [not good] after any one time wash - I use mild good cleansers when not wearing tough makeup but use a wipe then cleanse always a separate eyemakeup remover..always since a teen.

@winamac1 During college I was a Clinique “3 Step Girl”. The clarifying lotion became drying even when they came out with the one for dry skin. That’s when I began shopping around for other skincare. In my late 20’s became MUA and was able to experiment w/ many lines. I found that many dept. store brands (associated w/ makeup also) had strong fragrance, empty promises and unnecessary ingredients. When I worked w/ Bobbi Brown, her no nonsense approach to skincare caught my eye...cleanse, treat, moisturize and SPF. I added Retin A 40 yrs. ago when still only used for acne...almost 30 yrs.!

It wasn’t until much later that my skincare required anti-aging, stronger ingredients & have stayed w/ Skinsceuticals since then (adding PTR glycolic pads and keeping my Retin A).

I’m staying w/ my B.B. Oil cleanser...best I’ve found and love the fragrance. It does remove mu & sunscreen...my test w/ Cetaphil & white washcloth afterwards proved to me I was missing the areas around & into the hair line. I’ll just do a better job w/ the oil.
