Darker or Lighter Eyebrows

I am 50+ years old and recently thinking my eyebrows might be too dark. As my hair has developed more gray strands, I have had it colored to the same color it has always been, however the brown looks richer than my natural brown. My eyebrows have gone quite gray well before my hair did. I use a universal taupe eyebrow pencil to color and fill in the sparse areas.

I'm thinking about going a shade lighter on them.

Any thoughts on going lighter or darker with eyebrows as we mature?

@QuinnyI always go lighter. I'm, a new 61 yr.old and like a dark ash blonde shades or it looks harsh.

I have highlighted brown hair. It just looks softer. Dislike those big brows painted on so many now!.

Ash looks best on most people IMO and I too use a universal taupe..most all of my many brow products are taupe.

Kristopher Buckle's brow product is great...hands down the best!

I use blonde and it's perfect...many say they use blonde as the other 2 colors are so dark.

Depends on the person. For me, Grey hair taupe looks odd. Finally! Anastasia Brow Definer or wiz medium brown perfect. Love the color easy application. Take a look on ULTA website. Pictures women different shades grey hair wearing medium brown. Anastasia nailed it! Definitely the, Queen of Brows.

I inherited my mothers jet black eyebrows. I love the look and just fill them in and I'm good to go! I color my hair and will definitely NEVER let it go gray so I can't speak to how black brows with look with gray.

Try the lighter shade. Sometimes a lighter brow can enhance your eyes or other features.

If brows are too dark they can appear harsh or sinister looking.

I darken my brows with a pencil - they're lighter than my hair otherwise. But I don't have any gray in my brows. I think I'd match them to your hair if I were you. I hate the look of thick brows that look like they're done with a magic marker - seems to be the popular look these days.

My hair is naturally almost white now. I use and light taupe color on my brows

I had a friend who was grey ,and she used grey eyebrow pencil, and it was really attractive on her. It looked much better than dark brows

I go lighter. I have played around with both looks and the darker brows look harsh and fake. My brows were never real dark anyway.

@Quinny Trust your instincts and go lighter on your brows. When your hair goes hair (even when you color it), you’ve lost the melanin in it. Nature compensates by lightening your complexion (also loses melanin), so your brows may actually be too dark against your skin. I’d always go a shade lighter than your hair....unless you’re white/grey/silver like me and I use taupe.

Additionally, the standout darker brow will compete with whatever else you think is important: eyes, cheeks, lips, lip color, etc.

They will be all folks “see !”

The hair on my head is almost black and so are my brows and lashes. My brows are fairly full but are sparse on the tails and part of the arch. I like to use a taupe brow pencil to give the look of a complete brow by giving them a shadow effect. For me, using a black or dark brown brown pencil makes my brows too defined and makes them contrast harshly against the rest of my face.

My brows are dark brown. Every once and a while, a white hair sneaks in and I pluck it. If I were to color them, I would go similar to the hair color.

I am a brunette with dark brown hair, not black. My brows are dark brown & are naturally darker than hair. I use a brow pencil to fill in brows but use a pencil lighter than my natural brow color. They look less severe than if I was to match exactly. I started using L’Oreal Brow Stylist Definer Pencil with the brush on opposite end in Dark Brunette but it was too severe. I switched to Brunette & it looked better.

My eyebrows are snow white! I use Just for Men Beard and Mustache Dye on my eyebrows in Dark Blond. Just the right color for me.

Rather than cover the gray, I lightened the rest of my hair to camouflage it. My hair is colored a champagne / beige blonde shade. Brows are just a bit darker.

My brows are naturally very dark brown, while my complexion is very fair. I fill in the sparse areas with a lighter brown. If I match the pencil to my natural brow color, I think my brows are too harsh.

When I was younger my brows were always too thick and much darker than my natural hair. Now I color my hair a light/medium brown, but didn't want my brows tinted. I use taupe for my brows most of the time. I notice lately my brows are thinner (by a lot) and getting lighter. The brow item I used today seemed too dark and I think it was unbecoming. It has two shades (it's Shiseido) so tomorrow I will use only the lighter shade. My brows have always been awful and don't have a nice arch, etc. I agree when the reps. on QVC say how much difference a good brow makes.

bareminerals made a brow powder years ago in dark blond/med brown and I'm still using it. I have tried every new thing that has come down the pike, but the powder from bareminerals looks the most natural. I don't even know if they make it anymore, but I have almost a full container, I'll no doubt be buried with it. LOL

I have my brows dyed the with the same color that is used on my hair. Works perfectly for me.

@Quinny My hair is salt & pepper and my eyebrows are still dk. brown but I recently purchased a brow kit by e.l.f. for fill in and I purchased the lightest shade and glad I did. I don't care for eyebrows on mature women to be very dark. I only need to use the wax side to shape because it gives some color and fills in the area. It is a two sided kit with wax and powder and a two sided brush for $3. It works for me.
