How To Find The Right Lipstick Color?

I just saw on youtube Lipstick Queen and she says if you have a warm skin tone Dark hair skin and eyes you would look best in cool colors.

If you have a cool skin tone blonde hair light skin,light eyes you would look best in warm colors.

I do agree with her I am warm skin tone and cool blush and lipsticks look so much better on me than warm colors.

Do you ladies agree?

No. I am a cool-tone bleached blonde, cool-tone pale skin, and olive eyes. I wear ALL cool tone makeup.

If I'm understanding you correctly, then I disagree.
If your natural tones are cool you look better with cool tones in makeup and haircoloring. Likewise warm with warm.

Dark hair and eyes aren't necessarily warm. Dark winters are cool, whereas dark autumns are warm.
Summers, whether their hair is very pale blonde or dark, are cool. But blonde Springs are warm.
And it's determined by undertones in skin, which aren't always obvious at 1st glance, and can be quite misleading.
But every 'wannabe' can put something on u-tube.

@cuddlesmama The reason for knowing if you’re cool or warm is so you can choose those your best shades within that palette....makeup and clothes. There are also neutral toned red lip colors that look good on everyone. Check at dept. stores where you have guidance. Drugstores have no unwrapped samples to try.

My skin color is a light-tan with yellow undertones. Most of my lippies and blushes are warm colors. But if I want to really pop a color on my lips then I go for the cool shades. I will also pop a cool color blush on top of a warm one to give it dimension.

So to answer the question, yes to some degree.

It does sound like it might look dramatic. But my application is very light-handled and subtle so it can be for daytime. @x Hedge

No I don't agree at all. Besides undertone it also matters if you're high or low contrast. She also ignored the fact that some people are neutral. I'm high contrast and a bright winter with black hair, green eyes and very pale skin. I like myself best in cool tones.

I do think some people mistakenly think that cools can't wear certain color families. While I avoid yellow and brown I look great in the right neon orange, coral and pink. I can't do yellow undertone pastels but look great in icy pale colors.

IMHO the only way to judge how a lipstick will look on you is to try it. I already know what colors look best on me and if I want to try a new color, I go to the mall and try a little out on my wrist. I wear it for a while to see if it changes color due to my body chemistry. Same thing goes for perfume. Then, and only then will I buy it.

I have very dark brown hair and eyes, with a yellow tone in my skin, which is not quite olive, but close. I can only wear neutral or cool lipstick. Blue toned reds or wine colors are best for me. If I put on an orange based red or a coral lipstick, I'd look AWFUL. Believe me, I know that only too well !!!

I can, however, wear warmer shades on my cheeks.

I have a general idea of what shades I like (not overly dark or bright). Other than that, I'm open to trying just about any shade other than orange. I don't adhere to any color type analysis.

I once read to match the inside color of your lips. I did and came up with BM Buxom in the color Dolly. It's always the right color and goes with everything.

I'm in my early 60's and am still looking for the right lipstick! I have very red lips, which some may think a good thing, but any color lipstick just doesn't look good at all. I have colors that I like but when I apply it, it just looks horrible. I'm always on the hunt. Oh well, clear lipgloss it is!

No...I’m icy blond and blue eyed with pinkish bluish undertones. I wear the reds and pinks that lean toward the bluish side. The warmest I can go is a barn red.

I am definitely warm with brown hair and green eyes. I look better in rose to mauvey colors or neutral colors. If I wear warm colors it makes my teeth look yellow.

This is the first I've ever heard of this color theory. Come to think of it, there may be something to it! It's that sense of contrast.

I am really a neutral with a cooler-toned base, and peaches/oranges do seem to be more flattering on me.

It may be a matter of personal preference, but I also like learning principles, so thank you, @cuddlesmama, for sharing this!!

It doesn't make sense but I agree with it. I am super fair with pink skin and I wear a light cookl toned pink blush but I love lipsticks in pinkish brown shades of reddish brown shades. I hate orange or corals though.

The recommendations you saw on YouTube were swept with a much too wide brush. There are so many "in-between" considerations in a woman's skin tone, eye color, hair color, etc.; making those types of broad generalizations are unfounded.

I have a light, very neutral skin tone, blue-green eyes and medium brown hair. There are definite shades or warm AND cool colors I'm drawn to and wear quite successfully. About 8 months ago, I had my makeup done (for my son's wedding) by a makeup artist in Chicago. We had this warm/cool discussion. She told me warm tone, cool tone ideas were very "old school" and words she refused to use in describing makeup and left the majority of women "in the dark" about their options of what someone deigned they should or should NOT wear.
