I'm new to Retinol. Just started using it - every other night - this week. The first night was fine. Last night used it and after putting it on and waiting a few minutes, I then put on my moisturizer. When I went to bed, I noticed that it looked like my face had flakes all over it. At first I thought my face was peeling like after a sunburn but actually think it was my moisturizer balling up and/or flaking off.

Are you not supposed to put a moisturizer on after applying Retinol? I waited a few minutes after applying the retinol before putting the moisturizer on. Anyway, curious as to what everyone else does. Thanks!

I looked at mine and it didn't say not to put on moisturizer but it didn't say to do so either and usually it'll say "follow with moisturizer" or some such thing. What it did say is to use it at night and then to make sure I use a sunscreen "while using this product." Which I do in the morning. Anyway, thanks for responding; was just curious what others were doing.

I use prescription Retin-A, and my dermatologist has me use moisturizer first, then the Retin-A. Retin-A is stronger than retinol and you need a prescription for it. Hope that this helps.

I just tried RetinoSyn-45. I am still on Phase 1. You first put on Regeneration Complex. And then the directions say to apply the serum directly on top of Regeneration Complex."

And then the directions say to follow with a non anti-aging moisturizer (if needed).

I have not used a moisturizer because after applying the serum I don't think I need it. The serum is moisturizing enough.

What do your directions say? Should you use a moisturizer? Are you using the right type?

If your skin is getting irritated (redness and flaking) from using your retinol product, you can try a couple of things. You can decrease the frequency of use or you can mix your retinol product with your moisturizer (about equal parts of each) and then apply it this way until your skin gets used to it and stops getting red and peeling. If you have no problems with using it right off the bat then I would not use a moisturizer with it because it may dilute the effect of the retinol which can prolong the results you are looking for. Retinol is one of those things where less is not more. The key to it's use is to let your skin adjust to it. After that you may want to try a higher concentration because with retinol you may experience a plateau with your results and need to go to a higher strength. @drizzellla

When Mary Lyn from Philosophy was describing how to do with their new retinol pads, she said to clean your face, then use the pad all over your face, neck and back of hands and that was it. Go to bed she said.

The vendor on the video (QVC) said to follow with your night time moisturizer. She didn't say to wait a half hour like so many do.
