trouble with compacts

I am having a hard time with the more recent compacts I have purchased. I cant get a good grip on them to then open the top. They are skinny and slippery and the top does not open that easily. I have to turn sideways and "pull" the top open then any brush inside goes flying. Maybe I am having dexterity issues but don't seem to have issues anywhere else. Any one have the same problem?

Yes, me too! Always have had trouble with this type of thing. I have broken a lot of powders, shadows, etc. because of this opening mechanism!!!

SAME HERE!! It is so bad that I sometimes leave the lid cracked open, of course then I am afraid of it drying out. A real problem.

I've broken more than that, I've broken my nails. So frustrating. And why don't they put some kind of marker to show which side opens so I don't have to get my readers. They are too cheap (all of them) to make a compact like they used to-you just push the little button and it releases the top and voila! Open!

I struggle with my Two Faced Blush in the plastic heart container. So difficult to get open and one of my favorite blushes as they last longer on me.

Also learned to be careful with airlines as luggage that is tossed and thrown breaks the contents. LG was the one that broke as if it was dropped on the floor.

When BE introduced their pressed line, I had a horrible time opening the compacts. Eventually threw them all out and went back to the jars. When they are making several hundred thousand products, one would think they would pay more attention to the engineering.

It is not just you @QVCPal. I stopped using BB concealer and corrector because the tiny round compacts were impossible to open. It was not obvious which end had the hinge and which was the opening....and yes, my only chance of opening it was to slide a fingernail under the "notch" where it opened. When I asked for any tips or tricks at counter, they said the way I was opening it was correct. Never purchased replacements.

The best thing you can do is stop buying them and COMPLAIN LOUDLY to the manufacturer .... or, at the very least, complain on their facebook pages!

As my grandmother would say "the squeaky wheel gets the grease".

If you insist on purchasing these anyway, my suggestion is to replace the puff with a thicker puff so it doesn't shut.

It's not you. It's the way they are manufactuing these compacts. Most of them are some type of plastic compound and just have that tiny slit. I use the tip of a metal nail file that are on nail clippers. Works every time and doesn't damage the compact. Honestly, they raise the price of the makeup and reduce the quality of the packaging. I question the shelf life of some o f these things but it's better than the heavy cardboard on other items.

You are not alone. If it's not blush, it's pressed powder. You would think that someone would come up with a better design and then everyone will follow the lead.

I hate the cardboard lipstick covers and the card board containers thet are made to look like plastic but are not , Lipstick with a cardboard cover dries out fast!

I thought I was the only one who was frustrated with those compacts. I especially cannot tolerate the IT bye bye pores pressed powder compact....it always opens to the bottom where the 'pad' is located.....I cannot open the top where the powder is contained without getting a nail file and pressing it into the top slot. I don't have time to mess with it so I don't use the product and will not purchase another one.

I bought the Kose foundation from QVC. Worst compact ever. I think the contents will dry up before I can use it. I do like the foundation, but will not repurchase because the the awful compact.

I have been having issues with compacts for years. If it's not staying shut, it's almost impossible to open. I've broken compacts just to get inside of them. I think the best ones I own are from E.Lauder. or Lancome.

I remember in my early days in the retail world it was explained that part of the higher price for the prestige brands was for their luxury cases and tubes, better brushes and applicators, and the external packaging for the products. Today, some of the cases and packaging may be interesting and attractive, but lacking the high quality of yesteryear.
