I'm wondering if there's something that the people who claim it softens their hair are doing that I'm missing. Although I've paid quite a lot of money over the years on quality beauty products and tools, this was the first time I spent a lot on a dryer, so I don't have anything to compare it to. My dryer is tourmaline, ionic and does a nice job, but doesn't give it the professional look that the Dyson does. The Dyson dries it out, so I guess I'm hoping to find something that gives the professional styling without drying it.

Honestly, a $400 dryer should blow me away (no pun intended)!

Dyson Dryer Questions

I received my new Dyson dryer last week, have used it twice, & my stylist used it this week. The jury is still out for me & wondering if people have some input that might help.

My hair is naturally thick, course & wavy. It shaved about 5-10 minutes out of the approx 25 minutes it normally takes, but not the incredible 40 minutes to five that the Dyson rep & other similar claims. Hair was left full & drier (not the smooth & soft it's claimed to by many). There were even a few waves, but I'm still getting used to using it, its attachments, etc.

Pros include the style lasted a long time. I don't wash my hair daily & sleeping on it didn't have the same effect it normally does, it was far easier to keep over a period of time. Also looked like a more professional result.

I'm wondering if people have tips for me to help make my hair softer and shorten the drying time; maybe there's something I'm missing. In the reviews I see other women had the experience of it drying their hair, but am puzzled that it seemed to soften others. Thanks for your tips!

I can't help you out at all because I don't own the dryer.

A relative of mine is a hair stylist and the young stylist next to her bought a Dyson. She let my relative use it and when I asked how she liked it, she said it was nice but not something she'd buy for her own personal use because she couldn't justify the cost. She said it didn't seem to do much for her hair that her other professional dryer doesn't do. However, she has straight, fine and thinner hair.

I have long hair and asked a friend of mine who is a manager of a BBB if she had any feedback on this dryer.

She said they had a LOT of returns and suggested that I pass it up, so I did.

I bought my Dyson dryer from Ulta and returned it a couple weeks later. Yes, it shortened my drying time. However, I noticed my hair looking and feeling dry with each use. My hair stylist said it's too drying for those who color treat their hair. I bought the T3 during the last TSV and love it. Drying time is quick like the Dyson, but my hair looks healthy. Oh, during the 2nd week, my Dyson dryer stopped working while drying my hair. I turned the button to off and back to on and it worked. This happened a couple of times. I researched on the Internet and found I wasn't alone with this happening. Too much money to have to reset the computer while using.

Thanks for your reply Starlitshine - can you guess how much time in drying the T3 saved you vs the Dyson?

My assumption is that it often gets returned due to post-purchase dissonance. I bet soem actually like it, but they feel guilty spending that much money on it.

I know I've "had" to order something in the past that was super pricy. I got it, liked it, but realized it was probably not 100% worth the excessive price.

My opinion is that many return due to that.

I actually was interested in it, but I have to see more positive reviews.
