Do you have thick, long, gray or white hair?

Some women just have such beautiful hair that fits that bill. If you do, how do you keep it looking pretty?

Well prior to you calling me out, I was going to "lurk" your post for suggestions.

I started letting my hair grow 6 months ago from a buzz cut which I have worn for over 20 yrs. Currently my hair is slightly below the shoulders. At the age of 66, my hair just started turning gray but only in the front over my eyebrows. I look like a devil w/white horns is the only way I can explain it.

I haven't changed shampoo or conditioner *yet.* My mother has steel gray hair. She says my gray is white. I would like to keep it white so I am also looking for "suggestions." I have noticed that my gray horns/hair is fragil.

@Mz iMac, oh thanks. I thought you meant I was lurking. I couldn't figure that one out. I need maps to tell me where I'm going. LOL

My mother had two tone hair. It was pretty, and I just don't want to do perms any more. So long seems right. Your avitar looks brunette, so I was confused. Thanks!!

My avitar is my buzz cut. No gray. I think I started turning gray 4 1/2 months ago. My hair is dr brown everywhere else. And I mean everywhere.

Also lurking. Someone on these boards once described my (natural) hair color perfectly: cat pee on old newspaper. I'm still coloring but am interested . . .

I have salt and pepper hair, more salt than pepper. I wear a Suze Orman type of hairstyle. I just use a shampoo for silver hair and nothing else, except I blow it dry with my dryer and fingers, no brush.

I do not smoke and I am careful when I travel. I will not wash my hair in some types of water for fear of turning my silver hair yellow. I don't use hairspray or other products because they tend to turn hair yellow especially in the sun.

I always get compliments. People even ask me where I get imy hair highlighted ?? My hair is sliky and soft and it shines.

I guess I got my good hair genes from my parents.

Nope............gray hair doesn't run in our family until you hit your 90's+.

3 granddaughters (sisters), 1 is strawberry blonde, 1 platinum, & 1

pure yellow blonde..I hope their hair colors never change..

I just read an article on MSN this morning about trending hair colors for spring. Silver gray/platinum blonde is at the top of the list. Yay! I'm finally "trendy" !

My hair is not "long," but it's definitely thick on my head and has turned silver gray over the last couple years. I use one of those purple shampoos every 2nd or 3rd shampooing (Jhirmack or Clairol Shimmer Lights). If I don't use a purple shampoo, my hair will get dull and yellowish. I know because I went without purple shampoo last summer and it turned really yellow really fast.

I cut my hair very short in 2013 after my double knee replacement and retirement from my daily monotonus job. I grew out the remaining color and stopped coloring.... I kept it short for a year, and I have been letting it grow out without color now for three years. It is pure white, and just past my shoulders.

It is not thin, but I do have fine hair with a bit of natural wave in it. I keep it white by using the shampoos and conditioners with the purple tint every other wash or so. I only wash my hair and scalp once a week and no longer use daily heat appliances. I even let it dry natually just up on top of my head with an elastic wrap. I think it is pretty. It is a silver white like my Mother had who went prematurly grey in her 20's. I also went grey very young and colored my hair for 30 years trying to cover up the white.

I feel good about going natural. It was just impossible to keep my roots covered up and all the chemicals only damaged my hair more and probably were not good for my health. Hair color is just toxic, but, women will do anything to hide the grey.

Salt & pepper hair here worn in a short Jamie Lee Curtis style that looks good on me. I find that keeping my hair moisturized helps in keeping it soft (not wirey like some people have). I also use some type of shampoo for silver hair about once a week (those shampoos are usually purple) to keep the yellow out. I love my hair--just wish I wasn't losing it, but that is genetic for me.

I do. I color all but sections that frame my face which are bright white. In time, I'll do low lights and have the white come out all over and transition to the bright white overall.

My hair will stay long till the end.

I'm 63 and would never be sporting long hair of any sort. JMO Mine is pixie short, spikey on top and dyed jet black.

The hair I've been chasing to have my whole life is on my head right now. It's healthy, shiny and pretty if not downright beautiful. It also has the least amount of upkeep and/or products than I have ever needed.

For me the answer was stumbling upon shampoo bars last year. Had never known there was such a thing- I started with Beekman and then tried some from a small business called Chagrin Valley to which I am hooked.

Some people like to state that "old" hair just naturally turns kinky and thins out. I happen to disagree. I had unruly greys coming in using normal shampoo and conditioners and my hair hit a phase where it was alarmingly falling out during menapause. Enter the shampoo bars and I have a glorious head of hair.

I've learned some importants tips on this forum. Hopefully mine will give back to some who have shared info on here.

My hair has always been thick. I finally quit coloring it and went natural. The thing I hated about my hair is it felt like a horse main, so coarse. I started using WEN about 2 years ago (it did not take that long to see a change). My hair is so soft and shiny. Someone told me that several times when getting my hair styled, how shiny it was. All I know is WEN has totally changed the texture of my hair in a GOOD way. There is a learning curve on using it but if you choose to try it don't give up the first month like I did when I first tried it. Certain types of his cleansers can be used as body wash and as a lotion when you're still wet in the shower. Chaz Deans products have changed my hair and skin in such a positive way. Love love love them!
