I am 50 years old and I have hooded eyelids with a double wrinkle on them. One of my eyesockets is alot smaller than the other which caused that eye to sag more. This also makes my eyebrow on that side lower than it is.

This is just the way I was born. I would never get plastic surgery (eyelift or forehead lift) to correct the problem; however, I could do better with my eye makeup I just don't like the sculpting ideas that are shown on youtube ect. Should I just try wearing a lighter color like a light beige? I wear Mallys taupe shimmer shadow in the Tribeca quad. I only use that color and Bobbi Browns Shimmer Wash eyeshadow in Stone ( not together). I just brush them on my whole lid, which makes my eye darker. I just don't like the sculpted look. I just don't have the time to dicker with that nor do I want to.

Anyone with this problem do you have any suggestions? What do you do? I need a more natural look. I can't wear warm tones. Please advise thanks.

I just purchased a very brigtening satin-finish shadow from Urban Decay called Virgin. It's a cool beige with a hint of pink.

You could use that as a wash. If you want to put a lightly darker shade in a portion of your crease, try lifting your lid up (right at the brow bone) to give you access, and then sweep a little color -- maybe cool mauve, taupe, or light violet -- something cool and matte. You're best off without any shimmer there.

I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for. I'm not sure what sculpting videos you are watching or what that look is. If you want to even out the look of your eyes & decrease the look of the hooded lids, you will have to "sculpt" & "shape" the eyes with shadows. If that is not what you are wanting or if you don't want to take the time for that...ummm...can you be more specific about what you are looking for?

It is frustrating. You need to try a few different things to find what works for you & what you like. I have hooded eyes & at 54, the lids aren't as smooth as they used to be. I love eye shadow, so I am always plaing with something new. Make sure your cleanser isn't too drying (It will make your lids look older), use your moisturizing eye cream, a primer (if you need it) to help keep your shadow in place, but one that isn't drying to your lids (I like Nyx Shadow Primer. It's in a pot & I use either the white matte or the white shimmer). Then have some fun. I like cream shadow crayons for a one shadow look. They are usually kind to my lids. LM, Mac & BB make nice ones. If you like powders, they work fine, too. Get a great quality shadow. Don't be afraid of a bit of shimmer. Not frosty. Just satin or low shimmer. Use eyeliner that has no shimmer. Adding a bit of a deeper color on the hooded area will help that area recede & look less hooded. Mascara & an eyelash curler are good finishing touches.

Sounds like you're describing my eyes. Two suggestions. On Thusday, Ulta will have the Cargo essentials palette 50% off. I love this palette. There are plenty of light shades - matte and satin. The darker shades work well wet as liners or under the eye.

Hotandflashy on youtube is a great channel for us over 50 gals. This video on hooded eyes is a good one. She has lots of others you may find helpful.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X1MgFTNaws

But they don't impact the crepey texture and just seem to add a little oomph, or as Jamie Kern from It Cosmetics says repeatedly -- a little "je ne sais quoi."

Anything light and sparkly on the hood will really accentuate it. I understand you may not want to sculpt, but just a med shade applied to the hood will do wonders for your eyes. Add a light shade on the mobile lid and you are good to go.

And, then my eyeline isn't as smooth as it used to be, so if I use something with shimmer there it can emphasize the texture. Ew. I can us some shimmer underneath.

Watch Stephanie Lange on youube. She specializes in hooded eye. She is young so I go for her more classic looks but you can customize her looks for a more mature look pretty easily. She will tell you the best brushes for hooded eyes and her favorite pallet is Kat Von D's shade and light. It is all matte and I just love mine. I use it all the time.

Watching her has taught me so much totally changed the way I apply makeup.

I had a make over at MAC..the guy did miracles on my eyes!! I also have some hooding but I have those round sad eyes which makes me look older..droopy. anyway I understand wanting to keep it simple..so he told me AVOID shadow under the brow, not to accentuate that area...but use a brown or plum in the crease blending well. Not too much, just enough to shade it. Then he used a light beige on inner corners of lids. He also applied too other colors blending outward on the lids...but too keep it simple for you, you can only add one shade of your choice on outer lids...but definitely highlight the inner corners like I said..HTH

People with hooded eyes need to add a medium-toned crease color above your hood to create the illusion that the shaded part is your crease and not your hood. Then add in a lighter color to the lid and perhaps a darker color on the outer <. It's probably not going to be quick and easy unless you want it to look sloppy and unblended.

@dperry wrote:

I have hooded eyes and I just wear a colored eye liner instead of shadow because thats all you see unless I close my eyes.

Thanks for the youtube links. I watched them. Intersting. I think that is too "fussy" for me to do. I just don't like sculping. I also googled cream eyeshadows and they are not recommended by a lot of makeup artists for aging eyes as they creased.

I think that my best bet is to find a lightly shimmered light gray taupy color that I could just wash over my lid. Now I just have to find such a color. Lisa Eldridge suggests Dior shadows. I will have to look at all brands. I don't want to waste my money anymore buying things that don't work. Aging is tough on my beauty routine! What has worked for me for years just stopped working.
