Chaz Deen Products for hair................127 calls into FDA and I think it said 2,000 or 21,000 calls to his office. Anyway I got the FDA Watch email just now.

For those interested, here is the text from the FDA's website:

The FDA is investigating reports of hair loss, hair breakage, balding, itching, and rash associated with the use of WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner products. While the FDA continues its investigation, consumers should be aware of reactions reported in association with the use of WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner products. Consumers who experience a reaction after using WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner products should stop using the product and consult with their dermatologist or other health care provider. The agency also urges consumers to report to FDA any reactions they may have experienced when using these products.
As of July 7, 2016, the FDA had received 127 adverse event reports directly from consumers about WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner products, the largest number of reports ever associated with any cosmetic hair cleansing product, including cleansing conditioners. We also are investigating more than 21,000 complaints reported directly to Chaz Dean, Inc. and Guthy Renker, LLC that we learned of during inspections of manufacturing and distribution facilities.

The FDA has not yet determined a possible cause for the adverse events that have been reported, and today has called on the company to “provide any data that might help us to better understand the reports of hair loss associated with the use of WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner products.” The FDA also has reached out to physicians and other health care providers asking them to notify their patients of hair loss and other complaints associated with the use of these products and to report adverse events to the agency.

The FDA will provide additional updates as new information becomes available.

I developed the first scalp issues I have ever had after using Wen. It started with itching and got so bad I went to the dermatologist. He told me to bring a list of products I use, and when he saw Wen, he shook his head and told me to get rid of it. I wasn't the first of his patients to have a big problem with it, and I do NOT have sensitive allergy-prone skin.

I just got the FDA email today. I have been experiencing hair loss, especially near the front of my head and along the part. I have loved using Wen products for at least four years or more. My stylist told me about this problem when I began using Wen, but didn't listen. Boy, I wish I had! Does anyone know if, and when the hair grows back?

I'm really sorry for your problem ,but why didn't you stop using it when you started itching? Obviously ,you must be allergic to something in it.In my opinion that is not Chaz's fault but your own

@morganjen Do you think maybe the problems are caused because the scalp is not getting clean enough.......in other words that the product is building up on the hair folicles and clogging them?

1. Out of the hundreds of thousands if not millions that use Wen, there have been only 127 reports. That not much at all. And if there are millions that use it, 21000 may not be a big percentage either.

2. Whenever you start using a new product, you should always be on the lookout for any reactions. I would bet that most (if not all) of the folks that had adverse effects had paid attention in the early days when they used it, they would have stopped using it and the effects would have been minimized if not eliminated.

3. I never did understand why there is menthol in the cleansing conditioner. Could this be the culprit?

menthol is used in many other brands of shampoos and conditioners, even ones specifically for hair loss, like nioxin. I personally do not like menthol though.

Menthol is usually used in products to stimulate blood flow...i.e. irritant to make skin tingle and make itching less noticable.

@libbyannE Go to the FDA website. There is a form for you to fill out. They are looking for people who have had problems with WEN. A notice has gone out to doctors as well for them for reports issues with WEN users. WEN has responded to the FDA and has reported that the majority of the 21,000 complaints have been with Sweet Almond Mint, Pomegrante, and Lavendar. All of this is on the FDA website, just look up WEN. If this had been a dog food, or lettuce with 21,000 adverse reactions, a company would have done a voluntary recall on these 3 items, yet WEN has done nothing. This will not help the lawsuit.

If it does not work for you then don't use it. I don't use WEN. I have no clue why it would be for me. I have naturally curly hair with body. I use no product at all. It would be just one more thing in my case to worry about.
