I loved and used Butter London Cuticle Eliminator for a couple of years. And then, ofcourse, it was discontinued and replaced with Cuticle Exfoliator which does not compare, nor does it do the same job of really softening and loosening the cuticle for easy removal. I have tried Blue Cross but don't care for it, nor do I like CND's cuticle product. Help me find a decent replacement that will help loosen and remove my thick cuticles. I don't mind paying whatever price it may be for a great product. What do you use? Why do you like it?

I just had an appt for a yearly check up with my derm. The one thing he honed in on were my cuticles. He told me to let them be. Mine we apparently "too manicured". So I'm not going to worry about using cuticle removers or softeners anymore...doctors orders.

Apparently there are quite a few nail techs that don't understand the difference between the cuticle and the eponychium. The eponychium is living tissue and should never be cut (other than by a medical professional). It's considered a medical procedure and thus not something nail techs are allowed to do.

Does anyone get regular manicures and tell the tech NOT to cut the cuticles? I always keep my nails neatly polished, whether I do it myself or get a manicure. I think I'd like to try NOT cutting my cuticles....just using either Argan or coconut oil two or three times a day and gently pushing my cuticles back. I'm just wondering how a manicurist will receive a request not to cut cuticles (and I know as the customer she should do what I want, just curious how others handle it.)

@StillRachB First off what many, including many nail techs (as well as some nail educators and nail companies) , refer to as the cuticle is actually the eponychium. No well-educated nail tech is going to be cutting this skin in the first place. Doug Schoon provided some wonderful info on his Facebook page. One of his goals is the further technical educaion of nail techs. This blog also provides a good explanation.

As to how a nail tech will take you asking them not to cut...that's going to mainly depend on the nail tech. No matter how you present it, there will be some that feel you are questioning their knowledge and take offense. some will be fine with it and for others it may be a springboard for them to further their knowledge.

Not in love with it, but it works and I have a lifetime supply. Most of the time just gently pushing back my oil soaked cuticle every week or so works.

I love the Blue Cross brand. I also use this about twice a month. I bought the big bottle at Sally's and this will last me forever.
