The majority of the time I think how ridiculous this makes the models look, but the show host always oohs and aahs and gasps how gorgeous they look. No, they look like very attractive women with stupid, glowing highlighter in their inner eye corners!

A little subtle highlighting MAYBE and well blended but not how it's usually applied during these presentations.

Hope this trend is quickly on its way out.

I guess a bit of glow is nice, but I think the trend of a having a white streak across the cheeks is going to "carbon date" photos taken this year and last. And really glowy makeup does not seem as attractive to me as matte.

I am not meant to live in this era.

I'm thinking of an occasion when I had to perform in public, and for some ridiculous reason, I thought I'd try what I'd purchased as the lightest shade of highlighter in some VERY good makeup line, maybe Bare Minerals, but MANY years ago.

I dusted some onto chin, hollows of cheeks, forehead, under throat, and peeked into my makeup mirror, enjoyed a hearty laugh, and washed my face.

I would not insult ANYONE in any cultural or geopolitical by saying I looked as though I were wearing "war paint", but the experience taught me that on chalk white skin, the term "highlight" is, at very least, subjective.

I've never found/used anything to "contour" that worked even a little. Definitely agree with everyone else who finds this idea problematic.........

Was out with my husband not so far back when he was distracted by a woman with too much, poorly done highlighter. He wanted to know if that was a "look" that women were going for.

I explained the whole thing to him. He looked at me and said that he thought the woman had over-done it. He said she shone "better that a 3 million candle beam flashlight and glowed in the dark".

Enough said.

I watch YouTube videos quite frequently featuring women demonstrating various makeup techniques, color swatching new cosmetics, and the like. The ones that do a beautiful job highlighting, contouring, and other techniques always stress the importance of blending, I mean lots of blending with the right brushes, checking your makeup application in the mirror under the best lighting, and most important, removing excess product.

Now, I have to admit that I can be somewhat of a girly girl make-up-aholic on certain occasions even though mostly I strive for a more subdued, natural look with a pop of say a really pretty lip color. I think these techniques can turn out great but the beauty vendors presenting these looks don't even seem to know how to do it right themselves.

Another important thing is choosing the right highlighter -- people that have some coloring on their face look wretched with the whitish highlighters but look great with the pale pinky toned ones.

I agree, it's all about blending with the correct brush being used.

Me neither. I have posted several times that I detest highlighters and I think people are going to look back at photos in a few years and wonder what they are thinking.

Some are so overdone, you can see a huge streak of highlighter on the upper cheeks, across a nose or forehead, etc. But the worst is taking that nearly white shadow and putting it in the corner of the eys. Ugh.

I also don't like the darker sculpting because many times, it's very visible on someone's face.

You really need to know what you are doing or it is VERY obvious.
