I'm "boycotting" Estee Lauder!

I was looking through magazines while I was at my hair salon today. Everywhere I saw EL advertised, there was Kendall Jenner. I guess she's the new (or maybe not that new) "face" of EL. Then yesterday they showed me a new EL line in Sephora that is Kylie and Kendall Jenner's line for EL. Aren't these girls TEENAGERS? Is EL targeting the youngsters now?

If my mother were around, she would not be amused! LOL!

I don't think I can sympathize with you. Plenty of people become career and profit-oriented in their teens. Boycotting because you think a brand is targeting "youngsters?" Would you be happy if someone said that a particular makeup line you cared for was for "old ladies?"

I don't mind Kendall, I think she's beautiful and unlike most offspring of celebrities, actually looks like a model!

the Kylie enterprise, on the other hand, really rubs me the wrong way!

I get what you're saying though; I stopped buying In Style when they put Brittany Spears on the cover!

Kendall is 20 and Kylie is 18 (thanks, Google!) They both rep the Estee Edit line, a new line targeted at Millenials. A lot of the products get good reviews. The original Estee Lauder line isn't associated with either of them, as far as I know.

By the way, if you really wanted to boycott Estee Lauder, you should know they also own Aerin, Aramis, Aveda, Bobbi Brown, Bumble and Bumble, Clinique, Darphin, Donna Karen New York, Editions De Parfums Frederic Malle, Ermenegildo Zegna, Glamglow, Jo Malone London, Kiton, La Mer, Lab Series, Le Labo, MAC, Marni, Michael Kors, Ojon, Origins, Osaio, Prescriptives, Rodin Olio Lusso, Smashbox, Tom Ford, Tommy Hilfiger, and Tory Burch. Estee Lauder Companies is the parent company of all those brands.

You are not alone. The last lipstick I bought from Estee Lauder in Nordstrom, the sales person told me that a lot of women are boycotting the line because of the advertising with the Kardashian women. Personally, I am not affected but I do understand the irritation of overexposure of this family.

@Rachb - My post was tongue-in-cheek! That's why I quoted the word. I just was thinking about the public image of the Kardashians and what the older generation would say to having them represent what was once one of the most prestigious brands (at least in my mom's day) around! But I also realize that now, if I buy something from EL, that's going to put money into their manager's pockets!

Whenever I think of any of the K's, I think "sleaze", so EL using them as their representatives lowers the illusion of high quality prestige, to me. My image of better quality is "tasteful", and the K's are not.

I haven't contributed to making them stars, but if I want something Estee Lauder, I'd buy it. I don't think it's my job to condemn EL for using the stars in their ads. They didn't make them stars - millions of my fellow citizens chose to do that.

By the way - I wouldn't even know who the girls in the ada are - maybe even if their names were there.

I boycotted them years ago, it was because all of their cosmetics were so heavily scented.

I don't buy make-up based on who is a company's model.

That's usually why I boycott, too, @suzyQ3. One exception was my boycott of Georgio Armani, who used Megan Fox as the model for their Regenessence anti-aging line in 2011. She was 24 at the time and they Photoshopped her into this:

The idea that any skincare company would choose a 24-year-old woman to be the face of their anti-aging campaign and then Photoshop her beyond recognition on top of that made me sick to my stomach.

I've boycotted EL for some years now due to continuing their animal testing, which is, to me, more harmful, disconcerting and more of an assult to my morals and beliefs than a faux celebrity shill for the company.

Since Estee Lauder tests on animals, all of these brands under the Estee Lauder brand do too.

Slightly O/T: Yes, after pouring through just about every brand there to find a perfect comfortable matte nude that wasn't too brown, pink, yellow, or orange, I settled on Embrace (@FUTURE -- think you'd like it), one of her Velour Lovers Lip Colors, which are better described as satin matte. Lovely formula and good color selection:

I agree with you. It's pretty ridiculous to boycott a product because they're using a young model. I know that Este Lauder is a good company and they make good products. They can use Bozo the clown for all I care to promote their company. I know the products I buy from them are fabulous!!
