I would love to get my hair colored at the salon, but money is tight (I rather get my haircut) so I'm forced to DIY. I'm too chicken to use permanent dye so I use Natural Instinct which is semi-permanent.(I'm not very gray so this is okay for me). It seems that this is the only semi-permanent drugstore dye. My local CVS has a very poor selection so I go to Rite-Aid. I discovered (new to me) Natural Instincts Crema Keratina dye, I got the light brown shade (they don't make that many colors). I found this so much easier to use. Instead of a bottle of coloring to mix with the developer, this was a tube of cream. This went on much easier without the usually dripping. You must leave this on for 20 minutes instead of the 10 minutes for the other dye, don't leave it on more than 30 minutes. So far I like the way my hair looks. Usually my hair comes out very dark no matter what color I choose.I will definitely buy this again!

I won't use store bought hair dye anymore - it is always so much darker than it looks on the box - finally went and got highlights put in my hair - they will last me a long time. I always say, choose a color 1-2 shades lighter than you want if you buy box dye.

I used Natural Instincts for years before having it professionally done. I was really happy with the product and the results. I did have to go to the dark blond to get a light brown however, they all seem to be darker than you would expect.

Walmart has a better selection!

I use Clarol Natural instincts as well. The one with the developer that you apply to damp hair. I find if you use a clarifying shampoo before application , do not condition till after coloring, it makes it last much longer. The color takes more evenly than a permanent color. I am trying to grow out my natural hair and want to cover my grays till it is grown out enough so not to look wierd. I shampoo every day and still can go about

4 1/2-5 weeks( depending on the kind of shampoos I use) before touching up

And it is a no brainer. Your color comes out looking like the box photo. If you want a little darker result you can leave it in for 5 more minutes. best of all no damage like a permanent color and no commitment. It will gradually wash out. Love it!
