I can't wear powder foundations and I have tried many. I have combination skin that leans toward dry. No matter how much moisturizer I put on, powder foundations still look dry and flaky. I have tried the mineral foundations but they made my face itch until I couldn't stand it. I have tried LG baked foundations but could never get the right color. Also, powder foundations are messy, messy, messy. I'll stick with liquid foundations. For me, they work the best.

I think they are different! I used BE until it did look dry and flaky. Switched to Laura Geller, I liked that but there was a color issue for me. Laura Mercier was just OK.

I really like Pur Minerals the best, I also use IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation. I even mix them and it has been the perfect foundation for me.

In my case the key is to always use a good primer, makes a world of difference.

I sure think there's a difference between powdered foundations, and even a difference between them within the same brand. For instance, I love Laura Geller Baked Elements, but not her Balance-n-Brighten. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of trial and error until you find the one that suits you.

Not counting mineral makeup (which I don't really use anymore), I've tried 3 powder foundations: I have an oily t-zone and am 61 just for reference.

1. Laura Geller Balance & Brighten--Hands down, my favorite! Fair is my perfect shade and I haven't had any problems with variations from compact to compact. I do use the Spackle primer underneath and it stays on well. Coverage is good..

2. IT Celebration Foundation--Good coverage and color match, but by days end it had separated into little patches in my t-zone. Tried with primer and without, same results.

LOVE the brush, however, and use it with my B & B.

3. Physicians Formula--tried this in an effort to save some money. It was OK, and I'd go back to it if necessary. Just didn't give me the nice, polished look I want.

So, yeah, for me there were differences. I don't find any of them to be messy, though. Maybe because I don't "sweep" my brush across the powder or my face. I use the IT flat top, and kind of "bounce" it on the powder. Then I "stipple" it around the area I'm working on, then swirl it around to blend.

Yes, here is a difference! I've spent hours at a time at Ulta, Sephora, and department stores going from brand to brand trying out their powder foundations. Each one is different.

I use BE and Laura Geller and Paulas Choice. I do think they are all very different . For me I HAVE to make sure I moisturize before I use the powders otherwise no matter what the venders say-----it does go into the creases and lines and looks awful. I am 61 and have very dry but good skin without much in the way of lines and wrinkles. I do use the tinted moisturizers and bb/cc creams more these days. But for a quick cover up, I use the powders.

oh yes I have tried so many brands and types and can say with certainty that they certainly are different! Some look too powdery, some don't do anything at all, some look to dry, some don't cover well, some are too heavy, some turn an odd color once applied, etc. I hadn't been using powder foundation in a number of years very often until I discovered Laura Geller's Baked elements foundation ( I do NOT like her balance and brighten) which is the perfect color for me (fair) and does not look dry or cakey and doesn't settle into my laugh lines at the outer corners of my eyes like some do.

Anyway, if you really want to use a powder foundation, I'd say keep trying until you do find one you love- there has got to be one out there! Otherwise, just use a cream or liquid foundation instead.

There maybe a difference but it is not important to use if it does not work for you or you do not enjoy using powder foundation. There are lots of other option and not necessary to keep trying to use something that does not work for you.

I have tried many powder foundations..I come to the conclusion, I don't like powder foundation at all. I think the idea behind powder foundation is ...it's the lazy techinique. Great if it works! My findings have been, they either cake, or break up, or or just plain un-natural, and chauky. I have found liquid foundations that go on quick, easy, and natural looking. No BIG effort. Then..I top with a white powder from Maybeline, on T-zone. One I like is PTR foundation...quick, no blending, and nice luminous finish.

Laura Gellers bal n brighten - my favorite so far but compacts are so diff from one to another.

Laura baked foundation - I didn't orig like this one but a diff brush made a diff.

BE - I have a container of it. Tarte, becca, and probably some I forgot and other than color cannot tell much difference in formula. I have wondered about Doll 10. I really like her mascara.

I primarily use powder foundation and yes, there is a lot of difference between them.

I have tried all the powder foundations from the Q and none of them are on my hit list.

I have combination skin ... oily tzone. I have never found a powder foundation that I did not have to touch up at least once during the day. I work in public information for a county government and I run the government tv channel and am on TV every day. So, powder foundations have to really do the job...,I do use some airbrush makeup at times... but time wise, I rely on powder foundations.

Here are my hit list powder foundations.

My hit list.

1. MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation - the one I always have on hand no matter what powder I am trying and the one I always come back to. Perfect color match for me in NW20 or NW22. This one looks the best on TV.

2. Clinique Beyond Perfecting Powder Foundation - this is a good one, looks decent on tv, wears well and also a good color match for me with Clinique foundations.

3. Lancome Dual Finish - an oldy but goody but doesn't wear as long on my combo skin but also a really good color match. I wear it a lot on my none tv days.

4. Bobbi Brown Skin Weightless Wear Powder Foundation - I like this foundation but she doesn't make this powder in my color for Bobbi Brown foundations which is Warm Sand... I have to use Sand which is a little light for me. I wear this one a lot off tv days.

Yeah... I have a lot of powder foundations. I am always looking for the perfect one and MAC comes the closest.
