I used to have strong nails then had a professional manicure and my nails became weak. It wasn't a gel or acrylic manicure. Just a regular one but it must have damaged my nails. They started to peel all the time. I started using Nailtiques Formula 2 and they stopped peeling. I give them a few days to breathe. Otherwise I always have a couple of coats Nailtiques on.

I'm a big fan of the Perfect Formula pink gel coat that QVC sells. While it doesn't eliminate the nail splitting completely, it has allowed my nails to grow and look healthier than they've ever looked. I use it by itself, or over white polished tips for a french manicure look.

I would keep a little nail glue on that particular spot both on top of nail and under it and under any polish at all times, It will keep it hard and give it strength. Also apply the glue to top edge of the nail.

I had a couple of nails that were doing that. I take Andrew Lessman's HHS&N (Healthy Hair Skin & Nails). It has biotin in it. I have been taking it for several years. I don't remember how long it was before I noticed a difference. It was a while like 9 mos to a year. My nails were really bad peeling, soft, a few nails that were splitting & my thumb nails had/have ridges on them. Those ridges are no where near as bad as they were. I just started using Beekman's cuticle cream several months ago.

I have the exact problem for as long as I can remember. Recently I used Julep oxygen treatment, and it helped. I used the treatment as directed for a month. Now I am using it as a basecoat with nail polish. So far no broken nails.

Happened to me - finally a strong normal nail but it still has a ridge and it took almost a year of the following and a prayer or two.

Nail repair kits at the drug store - the paper is equal to tea bag paper, known to be the strongest paper going. Stop stop moisturizing - keep that nail covered from water and supported - get nail glue - cut tiny piece of tea paper and glue the paper OVER THE END OF YOUR NAIL. After drying polish for added water protection. My nail was split half way back to the cuticle caused by an injury. Again, it takes a long time for nails to grow and especially when you have a damage to the nail bed and it splits. Prayers be with you.

If it's only one nail I would have to say it's from an injury or weakness for some reason in that nail. My Mom had something like that happen and the nail would grow out to a certain point and then split. She just kept it filed short. Don't know about the glue thing. It could be worth a try. Not sure if I'd be comfortable with gluing my nail though.

You would never feel the glue, it dries smooth, and it works!!!

I had that same problem and finally found the magic combination that works for me. First I use the Perfect Formula gel coat in pink or clear. I also use the T.i.P.S. oil to massage all around and behind the nail. It has helped to make my nails stronger and healthy. I alwyas had a problem with the polish remover really drying and stripping my nails and then I found A.S.K. conditioning remover. This is a big differenece from other polish removers. This combination has now solved my problem. Hope it works for you.

I use Perfect Formula, a layer of Pink followed by a layer of the original.

The key for me was leaving it on for 2 weeks and adding more coats if it chipped. I found that using nail polish remover once a week was far too much and made my nails drier and brittle. Once every 2 weeks has been a charm!
