Powder foundation

Has anyone found a powder foundation that doesn't settle into fine lines or dry skin out? I used to use the Original Bare Minerals years ago and loved the finish and ease of application, but I had to stop using it for several reasons. I developed melasma and found that it didn't give me enough coverage, plus as I aged it settled into all the fine lines around and under my eyes. So I grudgingly started using cream foundations or BB creams. I'd love to be able to go back to using a powder foundation just because it was so darn easy. Has anyone with dry, mature skin had any luck with anything out there? Thanks!!

I'm older w/dry skin and I'm having good luck with the powder type IT Celebration Foundation in the compact. I've read others who say they have the same problems with it that you had with the Bare Minerals settling into the fine lines and I have my fair share of them for sure but so far I don't have that problem. I do use a good facial moisturizer and wait a few minutes before applying the foundation and I also clean the brush regularly so maybe that makes the difference.

Morning..I have great luck with "Too Faced" cocoa powder foundation. Good coverage and it smells fantastic. I always take a barely damp wash cloth and blot my face to set the powder and it makes my face appear flawless.

I'd definitely try the IT Celebration. It's quite finely milled and it's got good coverage. If you hate it, QVC takes returns, so it's not a bad thing to try. I use both BE and IT, but I don't have so many fine lines (yet..yet...they're a -comin.)

I purchased Laura's last TSV that she had and that compact is great. I like it a lot. Goes on fast and gives great coverage and doesn't settle in fine lines at all. Laura makes the best baked blushes too.

I've had pretty good luck with Josie Maran's Matchmaker too, but LGBE is still the best. Through assorted sales, I've stocked up and have many compacts stashed.

I used to love Lancolme dual finish until they discontinued the unscented version. And Lancolme also has parabens. I now LOVE clinique Superpowder double face foundation. I use moisturizer first and then after about 10 miniutes I blot with a face blotting sheet and then put the powder on. I do not use this under my eyes though. (And I don't use a cream foundation first). This is a medium to full coverage for me. It takes away the redness. I found mineral foundations sit on top of my skin and baked foundations oxidize too much.

You don't say what you were putting on your skin first .... or were you just using BM foundation?

Personally, I love the Boots No 7 Intense Advanced Serum (and then apply the BM SPF 30 Tinted Primer in the summer months) before applying the powder foundation. I think if you use just the foundation, you're not going to get the best results possible. JMO

I don't think you get that settling into lines as much if you use a good moisturizer and a primer. I have consolidated that into one step by getting spackle with moisturizer. I then use L'Oreal tru match either the liquid foundation followed by light application of the true match powder for dressier days or for everyday just the L'Oreal true match powder.

What the last 2 posters said-- use a primer on your face prior any foundation application. The powder will sit upon the primer and not your face directly.

I use Bare Minerals Ready foundation or Lancome's Dual Finish foundation.

I had to give up on Bare Minerals after using it for over 20 years. People were starting to tell me I was looking too dry.

Now I moisturize, use a primer and then use either Pur Minerals or IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation (sometimes I even use a combo of both) and it comes out to perfection! Lasts and lasts for me, nobody tells me I look dry anymore!

I am 61 normal/dry. I am using JM Powder Foundation. No settling into lines -Not drying.... I had completely given up on powder foundations until I bought JM.
Tip: use skincare, primer after make-up application. If there is a lined, dry, oily, sagging area you can always dab the appropriate treatment to that area over make-up. I apply skincare (dab) over makeup frequently and throughout the day. Very effective!

I use and like very much the Urban Decay Naked Skin Powder foundation. I have normal to dry skin with some fine lines. I get no settling from with this powder, just a very natural finish ( not matte, not dewy).

The coverage is light to medium and can be built up. I use Light Neutral.

I spent a lot of time reading reviews for UD Naked Powder Foundation after reading how much you love this. The general consensus was like yours- Quite favorable. I think at some point VERY soon I'll be trying this! Especially with warmer weather upon us.

BTW, that's what I call enabling at its finest. haha. Nah!... actually it's not. I look to you guys for some of the best recommendations & truly appreciate the honest, unbiased opinions here.

I'm 60, can be quite dry in winter & fairly normal skin during warmer months. For powder foundation I use Pur Minerals sometimes - especially when I travel but my mainstay is a combo of Bare Minerals and Smashbox powder in equal parts that I mix up in my plastic jar with a good wide lid for my brush. It defeats the "shaving fresh powder" delivery system of Smashbox- but hey!.. that's how it works best for me.

@Jacie- I have a lonely compact of IT's Celebration Powder. I'm guessing yours is a compact too since I'm not familiar with Celebration loose powder. I also really like Pur Minerals in the round compact. May I ask how you use them together? Just layering?

Another reality good (and inexpensive) powder foundation is Palladio''s Herbal Dual Wet Dry Foundation. I always forget about this one. When I use it, mainly in summer, I brush it on dry. Ulta has it for about $11.- Really lovely powder formula which performs as well as expensive counterparts- at least for me.

I had similar issues with powder foundation as you @rnmom and the best I've ever tried (and now exclusively use) is Laura Geller's Baked elements foundation and I've tried many powder foundations, including IT cosmetics, Tarte, Bare minerals, etc. I do not like her Balance and Brighten foundation but the Baked elements is amazing and never has it settled into my little laugh lines on the outside of my eyes and no, it has never dried my skin out (I have dry skin as it is, I certainly don't want to use anything that will make it worse)! It is truly one of my best finds cosmetic-wise in a long time. She often has 50% off sales on her website too, as well as many other great sales (30% off, etc) so that is when I buy the foundation. I highly highly recommend it. Oh and just a tip, I think it works best when you kind of stipple brush it on with a kabuki type brush rather than brushing/blending/swirling it on like you would with Bare minerals or others. The fair shade is a perfect match for my fair skin with neutral to pink undertones. Shade matching in powder foundation is often hard for me as well so I was thrilled how perfectly this matched.

ETA: and fyi, I don't use a primer underneath the baked elements and still no settling.

In addition to using a good primer, as previous posters have suggested, I have found that it helps to use a hydrating mist very lightly afterwards. They are available at several different price points - Yes To Carrots makes one for $8-9 you can buy at Target.

@rnmom, I have dry skin and 66 years old and have found none that work. I even try 2 very high end ones (Cle de Peau and Guerlain) and could not use them. I just don't think that anyone makes a powder foundation that dry skin can use.
