POLL QUESTION

If you could have mirrors in your home that when you look into them they made you look 10 pounds thinner, would you like that to start your day before you left the house? Perhaps you leave feeling better about yourself and not asdepressed to start out the day?

OR do you prefer a mirror that shows the painful truth?

As much as I would like to see myself in a better light, I guess I want the truth and not a deception of myself as looking better than I do.

Stores are using these so called skinny mirrors now to pump up sales. They make you look 10 pounds thinner,longer and thinner. Do you think that is fair??? Is it deception for the clothes buyer?

Seriously I'm pretty sure people know how they TRULY look and if they want to fool themselves by using mirrors that make them appear to be something they are not then that is their prerogative. I personally think it is odd to want that but what others want to do is not my concern.

I don't think it is deceptive of a store to use them either as, like I said, people are usually pretty aware of how they really look. Stores often use lighting to make us look better too. But a person who is 5'3 and 150lbs and then goes into a store and all of a sudden they look taller and thinner they know that isn't real. And if they don't, well then I'd say they have some issues that need to be addressed.

We we are definitely a society of denial on so many levels though.

Lol I thought the same thing! For some it can make you look gaunt and too skinny so how would that be flattering to some of us?

I find it interesting though, that people like pictures of themselves that have been photo shopped or tweeked to look better than they really do. People will stand a certain way or even wear clothes that cover up the bits and pieces( as Jayne Brown calls them) That I think is also a deception. Why is that ok where a mirror is not? Just a question.

I don't know why anyone would want to fool herself or himself. I wasn't always 105 pounds.......I've weighed 22 pounds more than that when I was in my partying thirties. Even then, I always wanted to see the truth in the mirror so I could deal with it. Burying one's head in the sand will only compound the problems (if any). I do think that women tend to be harder on themselves than men.....we see every flaw when we look in the mirror, where men tend to see the same handsome. successful guy from 20 years ago...........

I want to see the truth...and as for the skinny mirrors, I will not try on clothes in stores and have not for a few yrs now.

I read on a post here yesterday about "jobs you had that you didn't like", and a poster confirmed my concerns of being watched by male and females on camera...i'd rather take it back if it does not fit.

I would prefer the truth mirror. Btw I was shopping today for a new pair of dress pants for work, and the mirror did not make me look thinner. I still looked liked I had gained 15 pounds - gotta love menopause.

I want the truth. I even use a 15X mirror in my bathroom so I can see every flaw on my face and neck. I want to see what other people see when they look at me. I'm not fooling myself nor do I want to fool anybody else. As for my body, I've always eaten healthy foods and exercised and still wear the same size now that I did in high school (50 years ago! eek!).

The painful truth-ESPECIALLY trying on clothes! If i buy it cuz it looks good in the store and get home to see its a miss-back it goes or then im befuddled as to how i got fat on the car ride home!

Especially the "Menopot"; most 'pausal weight gain is in the midsection/torso area. ;-)
