Just had my brows waxed for the first time - and Henna'd!

There's a girl here that everyone recommends. I've heard about it for years, but never thought of doing it. My hairstylist told me last time that a lot of the girls at the salon get it done, and I should too.

I was telling him about my right eyebrow. I fell when I was 3, and my brow never grew much beyond the middle. In elementary school, my mom would draw them on once in a while. It never bothered me much until recently, because the left one is trying to catch up! AAGH!

So I drove down to make an appointment for next week. She had a cancellation this afternoon, so she said if I could wait a few minutes she'd take me. I haven't touched my brows since my 20's, no waxing ever. She wanted to wax them to make the arch more pronounced. So she did. It hurt a little, but didn't take long.

Then we came to the Henna. I use Anastasia's dipbrow pomade in blonde, and I'd had that on since early morning. I told her that was the color I wanted. When she finished and excitedly showed me the mirror, I wasn't thrilled. The shape was perfect, but they were DARK! She said she used light brown, because my brows had to be a little darker than my hair (which is dark blonde). She told me it would last about a month.

After talking to friends tonight who have had it done, I feel better. I know it's temporary, and both of them said they were in the same situation. One said she looked like Groucho Marx! They said it gets lighter - I sure hope so. This friend has gone on and had them permanently tatooed. The other one hasn't, but she also said not to worry - they will lighten up.

SO - have any of you had this done? Does it lighten up with time? I think I'll wear my bangs down tomorrow!

Henna has been around since Cleopatra's time. Should last about 6 wks.

If it's truly bugging you, try any shampoo on your brows that has sulfates. Should speed up your process of lightening the henna.

I had my brows waxed for the first time last month. I was so scared it would hurt a lot and stressed over my decision to do it. I had to wait like five days for my appt. They were agonizing. It didn't hurt until hours later and I was red around the area for almost a week. No color though, but it's something to think about for the future. I had one white hair, so I plucked it. It happened again. I can't keep plucking them!! My brows are dark brown, so I just may try henna. Thanks for the idea.

I waited til I was about 50 (now 67) to get my brows waxed. It just had never occurred to me to have it done! Then about 10 years ago, I was using one of Philosophy's "oxygen" masks. I hadn't noticed, but one of the beauticians at my salon said, "Have you ever had your eyebrows colored?" She said, "They're almost white." It was from the oxygen mask, I later realized. She colored them dark blonde cuz my hair is lighter blonde. Now I color them myself. They get a little more faded (lighter) every time I wash my face, so you won't have to wait TOO long!

I have a feeling your brows look fantastic, just that you are so used to having them blend into your face, and now they are pronounced...which they should be. My natural color of my brows is jet black. I practically can never find anything to fill them in that isn't brown. I need black. Since your henna is temporary just embrace your new look, for a while at least. I love changing my look! I just went from having an inverted bob colored brown with blonde highlights (boring for me) to a short, short pixie, spiky on top, dyed practically black with red highlights! Love it!

Love the look of well-groomed brows. It's like have a non-surgical face- lift!

At a certain age every woman should at least try it, does alot for your eyes and face!

Love having my brows groomed. Love 'Lauren' my Aveda girl who does mine too. She's great at it. It's like a spa experinece just like having my hair done by my other girl Audrey who's at another Adveda salon. I keep telling Audrey if she ever gets out of the hair business, she'd be a fabulous massuse - she truly has the hands/fingers that give me a great massage while washing & conditioning my hair. She also does hand massages while my hair gets deep conditioning.

Anyway - brows. The salon where Lauren works is now getting into dying/bleaching brows, bleaching lashes & putting on lash extensions. Once many years ago a former stylist of mine kindly bleached my borws b/c he had bleach left over. They looked great - no grey that lasted a nice long while.

Lauren didn't talk about a henna treatment, she said bleaching. I don't think that's the same but I may be wrong. Not too costly either.

I have never done it but a girl I work with just had her brows waxed at lunch time today. I should look into the coloring part. My brows are starting to grey and I dont like it. I use Gimme Brow by Benefit every morning now. Another step to the routine.

@ID2 - that's so sweet of you! Thanks for boosting my morale! My closest friend didn't say anything today until I told her this afternoon. She liked them. She said when she saw me this morning she knew there was something different, but she couldn't figure out what it was!

My mom also had jet black brows, and like me, she had curly hair, so they weren't at all straight. She used Maybelline cake mascara on them. They were perfectly shaped and she never tweezed them.

You hairstyle and color sounds beautiful. The combination with red that I've seen on others around here is stunning!

Plus, your darker brows will make your light-colored eyes pop!

Yes, I have had my eyebrows waxed and colored for years.

My brows are very light and I don't like the look of drawn on eyebrows.

Of course, the products now are a lot better.

My dear sweet Aunt use to shave her eyebrows and draw them on

You haven't felt pain until you have your upper lip waxed

But I love the results of all of it.

Men have no idea what we women go through to look nice.

It used to be I wouldn't go out without at least mascara. Now it's I won't go out unless I groom my brows (powder and brush.) This is because they tend to fade as you get older. I have very dark hair, and pale scanty brows don't cut it.

Have you considered threading instead of waxing? I have had a bad experience going to a salon for tweeting that left me with 6 hairs on each brow line or a nasty red mark from waxing. Threading is pretty popular around here and I am going to do mine in the next week or two.
