Matte highlighters?

So I am totally confused how a matte product can be used as a highlighter? For example, the new benefit shy beam, a matte pink highlighter. It looks pretty but how can a matte product highlight anything? Isn't the point of a highligher to bring, well, "light" to an area?

it does bring light, but not shiny pearly light....if that makes any sense. lol

i just received the it cosmetics dual ended highlighter called brow power lift dual ended pencil. i have been using the matte finish during the day and the pearlized finish at night.

@sunshine45 too bad there wasn't a video associated with that item because I just don't see how it can truly highlight as a matte product. I'd like to see it in action. It would have to have some sort of shimmer or reflective quality to give you the radiance that highlighters are meant to give you. I don't like gliterry or over-the-top highlighters but a matte highlighter seems like an oxymoron.

highlight and shiny are not the same thing. Think how white eyeshadow is used to highlight the eye

A matte highlighter would be used similar to Laura Geller item A232299, her French Vanilla. There are videos with this product that might help you. I have this in thr split pan she used to sell in a supersize, and use it daily to do top of cheekbones, cleanup eye makeup, and under the eyebrow. Hope this helps.

I use the Laura Geller Vanilla highlighter daily and really like it. It is suble yet does a nice job. If you want any kind of "shine" though this is not for you - but it definately does highlight and maybe even sculpt in a sense. I find it nice for my 51 year old face. If you are rather young it may not be what you want.

sorry but I've never heard of or seen how a matte white eyeshadow can highlght the eye.

Thanks but her French Vanilla is actually not a matte highlighter- it does have a slight sheen to it. I know where a highlighter is used and how it is used, henc the reason I am confused about using a matte product to attain the same results.
