How to prevent lipstick from bleeding

Hi all, I've had issues lately with my lipstick " bleeding" I always line my lips with a similiar color of lipstick and have tried the concealer trick also but still end up with the same issue.

Any suggestions or brands to try ? I remember years ago my mom purchased a product specifically for this issue... Lipfix I think it was by Clinique...

Use a lipliner pencil in the same shade as your lipsticl. Outline your lips and then apply the lipstick. It should not bleed out of the line.

I have taken to using concealer on my lips before any lipstick. I always line and fill in, then lipstick. If I want it to really stay, I cover my lips with tissue and buff in powder.

If I am using gloss I will use DuWop Reverse Lip Liner, a clear chubby pencil all around my lips.

I use a clear lip liner.

There are many different ones out there. I was using one by Avon that I liked in their glimmersticks line.

I take a little face powder on a puff and "puff" the powder on my lips, including slightly above the upper lip. If you use too much, "blot" with the powder puff. It ALWAYS works for me.

Lip Fix is by Elizabeth Arden. I also used it years ago so I bought it recently but I

don't know that it works as well as I remembered!

This was the best product I found last year. ELF's liplock pencil. Only $3 and I don't ever put lipstick on without it!

I have the same issue! It really makes me mad. If I try and wear a lipstick that has a little more color to it, which I like, since I am pale and washed out looking without it, then I get this migrating of color. I am constantly using a tissue and wiping around the edges.

I guess the best way to avoid it is to use a lighter gloss, which I do at times, but it just isn't as flattering on me.

I am going to try again the old method of applying lipstick - blotting it a lot -- then lightly applying again --- and see if that works.

I buy a lot of this line but I haven't seen this product. I'm going to look again today for it.

I've pretty much given up on lipstick because of the bleeding. I used lipliner for years, but got tired of applying it 2-3 times a day...and it didn't always work.

About a year ago, I guess, I discovered Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balms and love them! They give me some color, but are sheer enough so that, even if they do bleed a bit, it doesn't really show. For even more color, I apply a lipstain 1st, let it dry, then put the balm over it.

A long time ago in the dark ages a person much wiser about beauty and makeup than I'll ever be -- (he made his living taking care of faces)-- said lipstick bleeds and fades because the lips are dry. From that point on I have always used a lip balm before applying any lip color product and have never experienced color fade and/or bleeding. Now perhaps I have been lucky wth that, but since I consider the balm thing to be my trick and it's been successful for me I always suggest it as a solution for bleeding lipstick.

Chapstick and other greasy waxy sticks by the check out aisle in the grocery store aren't the balms I'm suggesting. My first choice is Smith's Rosebud Salve. Others I like are Le Couvent Lip Balm; Kiehl's Lip Balm; Pre De Provence Rose de Mai Balm; Philosophy's (original) Kiss Me; and EOS Lip Balm.

One more tip: the Pre De Provence Balm is great for feet, hands, cuticles, and I even dab a bit on the outer corner of my eyes at night as another weapon in the battle against crow's feet.

Hi AngelPuppy1, This is a clear pencil that you just line your lips with and it totally keeps your lipstick/gloss in place. I LOVE this product and have a giant stash in case it is discontinued ( like all products that I love seem to be). This works! And only $3! Amazing lol!

I, also, use a clear lip liner. Have used Urban Decay "ozone", Skinn's clear liner, and now found Rimmel clear liner at the drug store. The clear seems to work better to stop bleeding than the "matching" colors. Glad to read about the Elf brand.

Ditto. This is the trick - no need to purchase anything else. And it does work, EVERY TIME!!!! You're very sharp spent2much....

Thanks everyone for all the great tips. I do line my lips first with a lip pencil of a similar shade of the lipstick but think I need to try a different approach

I always do this and still have a problem with lipstick "bleed". What brands do you use?

I think something clear is the best solution. I think Revlon makes a clear lip liner.

I had the same problem AngelPuppy1 (I have an "angelpuppy" too...my silky terrier!) and I just went to their website (GREAT site! Good CS and lots of goodies!) and purchased there.
