Eyebrow Color With Hair Color

Looking for opinions. Do you believe that our eyebrows should be lighter than our hair, darker than our hair, or match our hair? TIA

I think a little darker. I have light blonde highlights in my hair and use a taupe eyebrow pencil, then go over the taupe color with a light brown powder because the pencil skips in places. I think it looks very natural. At least it does in pics I've seen of myself.

I think it should be a close match. I find dark eyebrows distracting on someone with light hair.

Mine have stayed naturally almost pure black while the hair has greyed---the thick front streak is pure white while the rest is colored very dark. Always get compliments on it. The brows need to be darker for balance.

That's my preference too. I think it always looks odd when the eyebrows stand out so much and also when they are so obiously drawn on, like Jamie from IT. I have a neighbor that draws her's on and they look like the McDonald's arches.

I think a close match to our hair color, or slightly darker.....But very slightl, I think someone with black hair and light brown brows looks weird, and the same goes for blond hair with dark dark brows!!!!!!

I read in a magazine years ago that eyebrows should be one shade darker. I started to notice peoples' brows after reading that and realized that I think brows that are lighter than someone's hair look funny to me and brows that are the exact same color just look off. No one's brows are identical to their hair color and it screams dyed and fake to me.

I also really dislike when someone has fake blonde hair and their brows are really dark.

A lot would depend on other factors also, i.e. skin tone, eye color, heavy or delicate facial features.... in another words - one should try for herself which shade/intensity of eyebrows make her look better and more beautiful.

Eyebrows are single most important feature on the face - they "frame" the rest of your face! So they either beautifying or making one look ..... fill the blank

Not too many of us can say that our natural eyebrows are perfect. Not even among young women, they can be too bushy, misshapen, or overgrown. With blonds or older women it's another story - scarce, not visible, or plain - non-existant!

So most of us have to make our eyebrows work.

Back to the original question asked - lighter, darker or matching hair.

Well, this is from an article I've read, and I happen totally agree with it from my own observations - for blonds eyebrows should be darker, as dark as her face would take without looking like a "witch" or clownish. For very dark/black hair women, eyebrows should be lighter than hair.

The article did not mention anything about same color as hair.

I heard it said recently that they should match your hair roots (assuming you lighten your hair, I imagine). Personally, I've noticed that darker eye color seems to require a darker eyebrow. In other words, even if your hair is lighter, if your eyes are brown or hazel, you may need a little darker brow in order to look balanced. I have light blonde hair (medium brown roots) with dark green eyes, and I need a medium brown brow (I have to pencil them in since they hardly grow and are naturally pale).

I'm undoubtedly in the minority here, but I just want to fill in the gaps as naturally as possible. I really don't want my eyebrows to stand out in any way. So that's the reason I stick to a neutral (universal taupe) for my light brown brows.

I used to have natural dark auburn hair and the hair on my arms and legs was lighter and redder than on my head, as were my eyebrows and lashes. Now my hair is pure white and my lashes and eyebrows are still reddish brown, and I think it looks funny. I think a person's haior should match all over but there isn't much I can do about it. I always think it looks off when a person with brown eyebrows and eyelashes and brown hair on their arms dyes their hair blonde. At least bleach your arm hair and eyebrows to match, esp if they are very dark brown.

Excellent point, @2blonde, about matching your eyebrows not so much to your hair, but rather making brows work together with the eyes. After all - eyes and brows are set so close, and work together as a "set" (play on words!). This what I was talking about - very individual choice, and those little details are very important.

I prefer my eyebrows a shade or two deeper than my hair color. I have light to medium brown hair and my brows are tinted a shade or two darker than my hair. I recently found a DIY at home brow dye kit and use it monthly to keep my brows in color alignment with my hair depending upon the season of the year. For example, my hair is closer to a medium brown in winter so my eye brow tinting process stays on longer and I reapply twice to make sure the color is deep enough. It turns out beautifully!

I agree with you. Personally, I don't like seeing eyebrows that stand out, because when they are too dark,too obviously drawn on or too thin or too bushy, I see them before anything else. I'd rather see a softer, natural look than the harsh, made up look and think I'd rather people say I have nice eyes or a nice smile than notice my eybrows! I guess I am lucky because all I do to mine is just pluck the strays and keep them at a nice shape. I've never used any product on them.

Beauty pros say the same or 1-2 shades darker; I agree.

Naturally and/or cosmetically.

Especially as we age and our skin tones naturally pale.

If your hair and eyebrows are also light, there's little-to-no definition; everything just blends together.

Plus, stong(er) brows frame your eyes and add structure to your face.

BTW, my own hair is medium brown and my brows are dark brown.

With green eyes and super-fair skin.

My natural hair color is dark blonde. I have highlights. My brows are dark blonde. I'm pretty fair. If I used super light blonde brow products, it wouldn't be natural looking and would wash me out. So I use ash blonde (never golden undertones!) brow products.

My natural brow color is a very dark brown, nearly black actually while my natural hair color is or was a light brown with reddish highlights. My brows were always a lot darker than my hair color when I was young.

I color my hair a medium brown shade as that is the color at the roots so my overall hair color is one shade darker than my hair color before I went gray. My medium brown hair color goes well with my brow color.

As I have a couple of gray hairs in my brows I will color my hair with Just For Men hair color for Mustaches and Beards in a medium or dark brown shade.
