Dior makes some of the best I've ever used--in coverage, natural look and shades for my skin. I don't remember which one (I keep some for "dress up") but they have a lot of them to suit skin tones and your skin type.

Hi - I haven't tried the Too Faced but have tried the Tarte and MUFE and prefer the latter.

The Tarte never seems to be quite 'right' as far as shades go for me. I also notice that it usually seems a bit 'thick' to apply - once it settles it's ok but not my fave.

MUFE has a lot of shades and I really enjoy the quality of their foundations. I have several that I like including the HD. I just purchased the new HD stick foundation which is great if you have drier skin and want full coverage. I LOVE their Face & Body Liquid Makeup which is a water based, much lighter weight, buildable foundation. The bonus is that it is a good sized bottle (1.69 oz) for just about $40. GREAT shade selection too.

Guess you can tell by now I am a MUFE fan!

There are really nice foundations in all price ranges. If you don't have any issues with your skin, you probably don't need to spend a lot to get the results that you want. The only one of those 3 that I have used is Amazonian Clay Full Coverage. It's a great foundation, if you have oily skin. You need to be sure to get a good match to your skin because it is so full coverage that it's not very forgiving.

Makeup Forever HD broke me out.

Revlon CS Whipped is a great foundation, if you can get a color match.

TarteTinted Treatment BB Primer is nice & is a bit less coverage than the Full Coverage, so it is more forgiving.

Napolean Perdis China Doll Foundation is another good coverage foundation that works for my combo/oily skin.

I used the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation for just over three years. The color match was perfect for me and made my skin look very nice. I have oily skin with some redness and acne scars. Definitely full coverage.

Sadly late last year my skin decided to change and it no longer worked for me. Since then I have been on some nutty crusade trying to find something that will work, both high end and drugstore. My next high end trial will be Kat Von D. There are great reviews on that one.

Good luck and I would suggest getting samples of anything you decide to try. No use purchasing an entire bottle/tube/compact of something until you know that it will work for you.

I have used the Too Faced and the Tarte. I have normal to combo skin. I wouldn't consider these high end, but definitely a step up from drugstore brands.

Too Faced was nice and looked natural, but it didn't wear that well at the end of the day. It settled into my pores on my nose and chin and basically looked like it was wearing off.

Tarte was too heavy for me. It looked like foundation. Plus, Tarte colors never completely match my skin.

IT CC cream is what I found to be my HG foundation. It looks and feels like my skin and wears really well on me.

This is hard to answer because everyone is looking for something different in the performance/contents of their foundations. What is best for you might be terrible for me or vice versa. I like something quick and easy to apply that doesn't look masky or cakey at all. The whole CC cream revolution is amazing IMO and I am all on boad with that. I've really moved away from powders as I don't feel they have any kind of staying power so I'm on the search for a HG foundation. I just ordered the supersize of IT Cosmetics CC cream. They included a sample in the holiday TSV and I LOVED it. The TSV went back however as the celebration foundation looked just awful on me. I really like the idea of getting so many benefits from my foundation as well as having it easy and fast to apply. Plus it gives me a nice completley natural radiant finish.

I haven't tried a lot of liquid foundations as I used powders for over a decade - so I am just getting back into the loop. I tried something from Mally - wasn't super impressed. Laura Gellar's new liquid was ok but nothing earth shattering. I think the fact that the It Cosmetics CC cream has so many skin care benefits really wins me over and would be hard to beat unless I find a different CC cream that looks better on me. Plus the SPF is so high - only rivaled by Chanel's CC Cream from what I've read - and I'm pretty sure IT has them beat on the price. But I'd be interested in shopping around and sampling different CC creams to see what is out there. For now that is what I am most interestd in.

Tried a lot of higer end brands a lot of them are thumbs down. Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer is still the best. People give good comments on my skin when i wear it. The MU TSVs always suck me in so have a lot of foundations to use up but will return to LM for good once I use up my stock. Tarte Amazonia clay was no better IMO than a drug stroe brand and Too faced Born this way settled and caked into my fines lines. MU forever HD is a good foundation but make sure you get color matched because of the numerous choice available.

I don't know what kind of skin you have, but mine is dry and the Born this Way looks dry and kind of cakey on me. Usually I use Clarins Extra Comfort, but I'm looking for another one that doesn't stick as much to dry patches and with a better color match. Other than that, the Clarins is good.

I currently use the Born this Way Foundation by mixing a half pump into my daily moisturizer and like it that way. Used alone, it takes some practice to get it to look its best, as do all foundations, I think.

Here are my recommendations:

1 - Go to a Sephora, Nordstrom, or other department store and get samples of every product you're interested in buying. You won't really know which one is best for you until you try it a few times, so sample and play with different application techniques. Some I've tried I've hated until I changed my application method, so it matters. Likewise, if only looks best with a sponge or brush and you don't want to mess with those tools, cross that one off the list.

2 -Do NOT buy a foundation for special occasions only. I say this as someone who bought many foundations and then wore no makeup at all most days and two things always happen. Either a foundation goes bad when I've only used it three times OR I have a hard time getting it to look right because I haven't practiced with it. If it goes bad after three uses, you're not saving any money by saving it for special occasions, you're wasting money. If you don't use it enough to master it's best application, you'll pull it out on a special occasion and get frustrated because you can't make it look right. You can also find that the shade you bought 3 months ago for an occasion no longer matches you the next time you pull it out because you're a little darker or lighter. Buy it, get to know it, and use it.

Sorry I never mentioned my skin type. Depending on the brand, my skin is labeled either Ivory or Fair. I have oily skin in the T-zone and sensitivity in the cheeks. I got off of Accutane in May so I still have redness and acne marks due to the side effects. So anything oil-free and full complexion will be nice!
