The ComPact is a commitment to simplify, pare down, streamline. It began as a way to gain some control over our collections of beauty products. Why were we amassing so much, yet not using what we were buying? Why were we always searching for the next new product? Why couldn't we just find what worked for us and stick with it?
The ComPact, however, is not restricted to beauty items. If you have a collection you want to address, do it here. Choose an area you want to work on, and track your progress on the ComPact thread. Members will offer tips and encouragement.
Choose one of our many mantras (“One by one until they’re done!” “We are SPAHHHRRRTAN!!!” “Not until you really have to.” “Buy less, choose well, make it last.” “Resist the propaganda.” "If it's high, I don't buy!" “When in doubt, do without!” “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.” “Shoplighters of the World Unite!”) or create a new one and share it. Target items each month to toss, donate, or use, and post your “chopping block” -- or “hit list.” Post temptations, post victories.
They say it takes 30 days for something to become a habit: Let's see if taking the ComPact one month at a time works for you.
Join us.

My goal for November is to keep my purchases to a minimum. It will be hard as we go into the holidays. This time last year is when I went a bit crazy and didn't stop well into the next year. I was a bit out of control. So, I am going to be super mindful. I don't need mu or skincare at this point.

It usually cures me to look through my mu and skincare so I will try and do that every so often to be reminded of what I have and need to use. It gets overwhelming so that will help me slow my roll.

For fun though, this is definitely an area I need to work on. I have become a dud.

Aprilskies - I could have wrote your post! Last Nov/Dec was a very dangerous buying time for me.

November goal - To avoid going bonkers with a shopping spree if I try to do a No Buy this month, I'm allowing myself 2 fun purchases for me this month. The rule for the purchases - no impulse buys. It needs to be something I've researched and wanted for a while. Black Friday will be a major temptation but I'm going to have a plan to survive the month!

October was actually a pretty good month for my stashes. I did buy the Bare Minerals TSV preorder for my birthday gift to myself and bought replacements for my acne products from Paula's Choice. However, there had been a bunch of other beauty temptations so overall proud of my restraint. I did however splurge on the Joy Mangano wax warmers she had as a TS. I got them and have been trying them out. I'm only on day 3 of using the melts and already the scents are fading? Most likely was a fool believing her story that they would at least last a month. I'm going to try a couple other scents for a few days to see if it's same result. They will be returned if I continue to not be pleased with them. I bought them on the premise that they would be longer laster than things I can easily buy cheaper locally.

I'm adding another goal for November. I saw a thread earlier about "Pan that Pallette". It's about using up items. On youtube, there are tons of videos of people doing this process. I applaud them - some were 100% on board and used up all colors even nasty colors.

My goal = I picked 2 of my oldest eyeshadow pallettes. Both are Too Faced which have 9 colors in them. Sad to say, they are some of my oldest stuff but still look almost new from not being used regularly. My goal is to hit pan (see bottom) on at least 3 colors by the end of 2015. I plan on using only these 2 collections for the rest of the year. They do have a nice variety of neutral mattes plus some light shimmer. I know I won't wipe out the entire collection due to in each one, there are the 3 dark shades that I honestly don't think I would ever use. I'm going to see how much I can use up in the next 2 months. Then January 1, going to review if I want to continue using or it's ok at that point to throw out and enjoy newer items already in my stash.

I never wanted to pan that palette because then all the other stuff just sits there unused. I figure if I am just enjoying my collection, I would be okay with that whether I finished anything or not. But I am really not using any of it anyway. So, I think I will join you ladies. I got rid of some of my smaller palettes, honestly, I will just not get to some of it but I pulled out my TheBalm nudes tudes or something like that. This is the palette I am going to focus on. I will add in other colors as well but I will try and use this one everyday. I figure even if I just hit pan on most of the colors, I will consider it at least used. I have thrown out too much and need to start using what I have. I am excited to see the progress on this palette by the end of the year. I have had this for awhile but barely used it.

You know I havent used mu really in a long time except here and there. I forgot how much I enjoy it.

I am also doing this with my skincare. I have too many open things and some are half used and whatnot. I put some things in the forefront to use up.

Thanks for the inspiration and looking forward to hearing about everyone's progress.

Hi, everyone.

I also am using two eyeshadows almost daily as my pan the palette and have made good progress. Sometimes, I will use different colors just to enjoy what I have, but most of the time I focus on the same two colors. I've hit the pan on one color and will probably hit the pan on the other in December. I won't use colors that I don't like or aren't flattering like some people do. I will toss those colors. Now that I think about it, I might pop those colors out and throw them away.

Late last night, I listed my short-term expenses that are not part of my normal monthly budget. With Christmas next month and my son being a HS senior who is applying to colleges, I have a lot coming up. Once I saw these things in black and white, it put things in perspective. I think I will make it through the holidays without any unnecessary purchases.

If you have any leftover Halloween candy, consider donating it. One of our doctors accepts candy donations the week after Halloween and sends the candy to our troops. That is where my candy is going.

Okay, just bee, how was the concert? Are you singing beach tunes?

Our cat is still healing. I finally got a really good look at the wound, and it is awful. Several days ago, a possum was on our deck. I am wondering if they duked it out.

I think we are going to the Peanuts movie this weekend. I am really looking forward to it.

My life changed last week. My younger sister died, and it was a terrible death. I just feel so sad and am trying to adjust to a new normal. My family is in a lot of pain. Just when I was missing my family members who have passed, this happens.

It was good reading your posts. Gives me a boost.
