By sheer coincidence, while searching Beautipedia, I learned that the source of the stinging, burning , irritation I experienced with the core WEN formulas was menthol and/or peppermint, and eucalyptus Then Bamboo Green Tea, the formula Chaz uses in his salons on all clients was offered on QVC. BGT , as you know, is a more intensely conditioning, menthol free, nut free formula. My hair was treated to the conditioning benefits without the irritants and responds to this formula and to Six Thirteen with manageability, increased tensile strength and rapid growth . I haven't had hair this full and strong since my mother cared for it and that involved stuff like castille soap and vinegar yuk! , irons in the fire and hour upon hour of torture.

WENners are fanatics because some of us have spent fortunes , expended hordes of time and effort searching for the right combination of products. WEN , in comparison to the four product routine I thought was the solution to haircare, is INEXPENSIVE ! a bargain. I'll save enough to splurge on shoes for goodness sake.

BGT is not menthol free.
You may not need that much moisture. I have super fine, super thick, oily hair and usually only use shampoo. I use a conditioner once a week, very lightly on the mid-shaft to the ends. Consider doing only one Wen wash/rinse and use less to see how it goes, but if not, it may not be for you. It is a great weekly conditioner and great for shaving. This is how I'm using up my stash.

Just out of curiosity when you rinse do you rinse until your hair squeaks? I have found that I don't get all the Wen rinsed out of my hair unless I rinse it until it squeaks. Then I know I have it all rinsed out. I have very fine hair and I find that if I don't rinse it out completely it would looked kind of greasy and weighed down. Someone on this forum had mentioned rinsing until it squeaked and ever since I have been doing that I have not had any problems.

Most major brands now offer either sulfate-free shampoos, which have little to no lather, or cleansing conditioners. They've been available from salons for years and drugstore brands started offering them a few years ago.

You may not have been aware of that, but that's not the same thing as it not happening. Pantene, L'Oreal, Matrix, Pureology, Herbal Essences all have cleansing conditioners. So do curly hair specialists Ouidad and DevaCurl. Drugstore.com alone has two pages of cleansing conditioners and COwashes.

If your hair is greasy and you are already rinsing well, it means you need to use more pumps of the cleansing conditioner. Also the cleanse, rinse, repeat method works. If you don't use enough cleansing conditioner, your hair will not be clean.

Wen doesn't lather in the traditional "handfuls of bubbles" sense, but if you've added enough water it will get "frothy". I don't know exactly how you used it, but if you don't use the recommended number of pumps for your hair length, and add enough water to make it frothy (takes more than a "splash", trust me), your hair will not be/feel clean no matter how much you rinse. If you've used enough water during the "washing" part of the process, the rinsing part will be much easier and faster, too.

Or...it may just be that WEN is not for you---no product works for everyone. Just because it doesn't work for YOU, doesn't make it "hype".

I felt the same way as you when I first tried it. Then a few months later I went back and tried it again, and this time I followed the directions (after having seen Chaz demo it). I wasn't using enough of it. Low and behold, following the directions worked and my hair was light, clean and shiny! I haven't looked back.

I do realize though that it isn't for everyone and it may not be right for your hair. I think you should try it again and use the amount of pumps it states on the bottle for your hair length and make sure you rinse well. Those seem to be the two things that cause people to feel like it isn't working for them.

I tried sulfate free shampoos for 2 years. And not the cheap stuff...pureology that ran $25 for 8.5 oz. and my hair was turning to straw even with conditioning. I have fine hair and an oily scalp.

Out of desperation I decided to try cleansing conditioners. For me personally, WEN works best and I've only been using it for 10 days, so I really can't be accused of being a cheerleader or anything like that.

I'd spent a fortune on all sorts of shampoos, sulfate free options, and other cleansing conditioners before I tried WEN.

WEN was actually the last one I tried! But I can honestly say I've gotten the best results from it and it's NOT the most expensive option out there. 😉

@lisrobreib wrote:

I'm sorry, I don';t get the Hype. I was... I rinse... I rinse again... End result, greasy hair !

I know exactly what you mean. I felt the same way when a few years ago I tried the WEN Sweet Almond Mint that was on the infomerical. Tried it two times and tossed it out. Left my hair greasy.

Then last month I kept reading all the posts from Wenners who praised the product up one side and down the other, as they anxiously awaited the gallon size product during all of June. So I thought, hmmmmm.....maybe I was doing it wrong. This many people can't be wrong!

Right before the beginning of the gallon sales I ordered the variety pack, A222871, $33, so I could try all his core cleansing conditioners. Before I used them I watched many of the videos you can find on QVC of WEN how-to-do. Then I read and re-read the numerous posts about the products. Okay, let's try it again, and into the shower I went.

WOW! What fantastic results I got. I was totally amazed and have not looked back. Yes, you do wash, rinse, wash again, rinse again, and then put a very small amount back as your leave-in. But my hair has never felt better. I think before I just didn't use as much cleanser as was suggested (seemed too much!) and I didn't rinse my hair to the squeaky-clean feel that was needed. And maybe I skipped the second wash and rinse; can't remember. I did find that some of the small packet "flavors" did not work as well with my hair. The Fig was too moisturizing for me, but one of my girlfriends absolutely LOVES it. The Cucumber Aloe was not moisturizing enough, but another friend of mine who swims a lot says it is perfect because it is astringent and clarifying. The Sweet Almond Mint is not great for me. The Pomegranate is good for me.

With a whole lot of help from the posters on this forum who directed me to what to get for my particular situation (fine, thinning hair), I started using Tea Tree and Lavender. It is too short of a time using them to determine what my long-term results will be, but so far the products have been leaving me with very soft hair, and there's a feeling of volume that I didn't have before. I just wish the new forum brought forward the discussion that went on about how to decide what to use and all the great information given me. I think you would have benefited from all the great suggestions. But with the new forum setup, I fear that thread of discussion is out in cyber space, never to return!

Now that I know what my core flavors should be to take care of the problems, I stocked up and got the gallon of each of those. And just because I like the smell of pumpkin I got the Fall Ginger Pumpkin, which is so, so great; and I also got the Winter Vanilla Mint, which is like they say on TV......like eating a chocolate mint (Andes, Peppermint Patty).

But I didn't stop there. I also got small bottles of the Summer Honey Peach, Summer Mango Coconut, and Coconut Lime Verbena. Then there's the volumizing sprays, serums, 613, etc. The list goes on. In less than a month, I have invested a tremendous amount of money on this product I poo-pooed years ago.

If you are willing, I suggest you try the variety pack and give it another go-around. If it doesn't work for you, then at least you will know you gave it your best shot! Only a few days left to benefit from some great deals, even if you don't go with the gallon size jugs.

Good luck!

I have been using Wen for almost 2 years and never have greasy hair. I used many different brands prior to Wen and was never happy with the results after a couple of months. Once I started using Wen I have never been happier with the condition of my hair and gotten many compliments. I don't really have problem hair either but my hair is fairly normal, not thick, curly, oily, thinning, etc. I tried many of the salon brands, pureology, kenra, matrix, biolage, and many others and never found one that I was happy with. Although, now that many of these brands are featuring cleansing conditioners I maybe would have better results with some of these products. Another product that I have been curious about is tweaked on HSN. Not sure if I will ever try it but may since it gets great reviews.
