ComPact 2015 -- July

The ComPact is a commitment to simplify, pare down, streamline. It began as a way to gain some control over our collections of beauty products. Why were we amassing so much, yet not using what we were buying? Why were we always searching for the next new product? Why couldn't we just find what worked for us and stick with it?
The ComPact, however, is not restricted to beauty items. If you have a collection you want to address, do it here. Choose an area you want to work on, and track your progress on the ComPact thread. Members will offer tips and encouragement.
Choose one of our many mantras (“One by one until they’re done!” “We are SPAHHHRRRTAN!!!” “Not until you really have to.” “Buy less, choose well, make it last.” “Resist the propaganda.” "If it's high, I don't buy!" “When in doubt, do without!” “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.” “Shoplighters of the World Unite!”) or create a new one and share it. Target items each month to toss, donate, or use, and post your “chopping block” -- or “hit list.” Post temptations, post victories.
They say it takes 30 days for something to become a habit: Let's see if taking the ComPact one month at a time works for you.

Happy July 1, ladies. I am still compacting, but really intimidated with this new forum format. I am definitely a creature of habit. Thank you all for your postings. I am still a work in progress. I still do not need any beauty items. I am still using what I have. I have 2 bags of clothes to drop off at the women's shelter, so I am plugging along. I hope everyone else is doing well. Thanks, JustBee, for keeping the ComPact going, as I appreciate everyone's efforts, suggestions of what works for them, etc.

Hi girls!

So an update on me. I left my full time job and start my new occasional job on July 7. I've been on vacation for a week and it's been wonderful! I'm starting to feel like my old self again. I was so miserable working 5 days a week. I really am looking to simplify all areas of my life, to make time and energy for the things that really matter. I'm tired of stressing out about the stupid things, like my stash of beauty products.

This past week has been busy, but I've managed to go thru both kids' rooms and we have some things to donate and a lot of little things went into the trash. I have 3 bags and a box in the back of my car so far to donate. (not all their stuff)

Yesterday was a huge victory for me. I was out running so I stopped at BBW to check out their semi annual sale. I also had an extra coupon. Well, I left the store without anything! I have lots of body sprays and lotions here but not a lot of shower gels, only 3, so I was going to stock up. None of the scents really struck a chord with me and I decided that I didn't need 10 more shower gels here, so I left with nothing. I will wait until the after Christmas sale and get some goodies then after I've used up more of what I have here.

So glad to be back!

Happy Fourth All!

I recently bought the Philosophy July TSV with the 6 oz. collection of shower gels. Have already given 3 away as gifts. Did I need it? Absolutely not.

Not nothing much else new to report, except went to Mally's 10th Anniversary at QVC and had lots of fun. Received lots of great makeup products and had a great time with my dear friend who went with me. So that was my fun for June and it was a blast!

Still fighting the urge to buy. Resisted the Borghese TSV with that pretty jar, lotion and scrub. Sat on my hands that day!

Makeup is still out of control. Bath and Body is not perfect but better than it was. Handsoap is still my best victory. No new handsoap for so long now. The stash is almost all gone.

Gave another bag of clothes to a friend, and another waiting to get donated. Lots more to go thru in this area. Hope to accomplish more in this area as in summer I work less hours a day.

Still working on weeding my makeup down, and trying out one palette a week,getting rid of what I don't like. Still going strong on my Project Pan with my Laura Geller Blush Palette. I'm on my last one in the palette. Thanks Osharegirl for the idea! (Read about your bug story my friend, its made me think twice about how many palettes I have).

I never really thought of myself as big on blush -- if I wore it at all it was just an afterthought. Color's close enough -- just slap a bit on and go. Then I ordered a Laura Geller Baby Cakes collection ($39.75) from drugstore.com. I'm thinkin' that was at least five years ago. I haven't made a dent in that thing. I use it! I've been using it! I think I still have enough blush for another five years! Every color seems to work for me and it just seems to look like it did when I bought it. Only one color looks like I made a real dent. The rest could keep me going for decades. What is going on here? Are all her products like this or did I get a freak palette?

Nope you didn't get a freak palette thats the same one I've been working on forever! Or we both got freak palettes LOL. I like it also, all colors worked for me too. I have one more to go. This is the only blush I've used for a long time trying to pan that palette.

This made me realize how long one blush can last. I've got several other blushes. Laura Geller inculded in the stash to use up. Thank goodness I keep my DD in blush also. Laura Geller's make up does last I can vouch for that! LOL

Well as of July 1, 2015, i finished my second year of keeping track of products used vs products purchased to see if my huge stash was going down.

2013-2014- used or got rid of- 127 items, brought in 71 items at a cost of $1161.66 (gulp)

2014-2015- used or got rid of- 97 items, brought in 56 items at a cost of $620. 71

So things are getting better. Mostly I'm sucked in to sales on philosophy.com

Yesterday I organized one of my bureaus. It is amazing how things become one big ball no matter how hard I try to keep them organized. I took everything out and rearranged it. While I need a few things to round out my wardrobe, it really made me realize that when I am out shopping I have to be really sure I love something to add it to my collection. It is hard for me because I get easily bored with clothes, however, yesterday I realized that what I have is just fine. I may not LOVE it all and still have a bit too much, but it is fine and will continue donating as I wear things that I don't feel good in.

This morning, I rearranged my mu and put in in one big drawer figuring it will be easier to pick through when I want to use something. I was taken back. I can tell you for certain, no more mu for me for a looooooooooong time. I also have to make time in the morning to use this stuff. I always have to have it and it goes right in the drawer barely seen again.

I am so glad I organized and rearranged, it will help keep me focused. I really should make a point to do this every so often especially when I get the buying bug.

Here is something funny that I have noticed lately that never occurred to me before. I have never gotten so many coupons from HSN. I never used the first one they sent me and I have gotten two additional ones since then. Sometimes, I am tempted but no, there will be more coupons in the future. I havent really shopped at Kohls for a while now and consistently I have been getting 30% off coupons. Coupons used to get me big time and while they are still tempting, I am letting them go. Just like there will be another sale, there will be another coupon and, these days, you dont have to wait long for it.
