Sad truth about Olive Oil Scrub

Contains plastic microbeads that absorb toxins and pollute our waterways. (Water treatment plants can't remove them.) They are small enough for fish and small water life to eat, then we ingest them as well. I believe they are outlawed in CA. Wish Philosophy would reformulate this product, cuz I used to love it till I heard this! Offending ingredient is polyethylene.

I did not buy Crest 3D toothpaste this week due to the polyethlyene beads in there, they get stuck in the gums. I did find one formula sans the beads, it was called Foaming.

I didn't realize this... thank you for letting us know. I use a natural apricot scrub and try to not using unnecessary pollutants.

My olive oil scrubs contain both diatomaceous earth and sea salt........... as well as this polyethylene.

The diatomaceous earth and sea salt are the main driver exfoliating properties in this product as compared to the polyethylene.

Just saying...........look it up please.

Watched a few presentations and they do say it has natural sea salt as an ingredient. I think I read once on here that the ground up apricot scrubs were bad ?

I was just going to post the same thing ..thank you for doing so..its true..products with plastics..Big business needs your money so they can continue with there greed with no conscious of killing our land and all thing living here..QVC.. at every minute, has an opportunity to make decision about its involvement to the world and its future..and we also make that decision to buy products and kill ourselfs and environment. its like crapping where you live.. peee U!!!!

You can make your own.

Sugar Olive Oil Scrub

You Need:

Three tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Two tablespoons organic honey (does not have to be organic, regular honey is fine, too)

One half cup organic sugar (does not have to be organic, regular sugar is fine too, but no Splenda)

Measuring utensils

One chopstick or stirring stick

One clean container

I think the point is is that the polyethylene is still in it which will still pollute the waterways and affect animals (an eventually, us). So although the other ingredients may be in a higher concentration in the product, it doesn't negate the fact that the polyethylene is still present nor the effects the polyethylene can cause.

ETA: OP I think most states are looking into banning this ingredient so hopefully it will be reformulated soon once all states are onboard. Several either already have or are in the process of banning their use.

I am heartened by the number of views, (and voices in agreement!) re:my post. As someone already pointed out, the scrub has lots of good ingredients, but does contain the polyethylene plastic as well. Let's hope Philosophy becomes aware of this concern, and reformulates a better scrub...there are many other body scrubs out there that do not have plastic as an ingredient....(I was also surprised to come back this afternoon and find the post still up!!!!)

The polyethylene bead issue comes up somewhat regularly (on various product lines, and just in general). To my knowledge, QVC leaves them all up.

I'm glad you posted this. I only recently heard about this problem and won't buy anything that contains micro-beads. Unfortunately, water filtration systems cannot capture such small particles so they end up everywhere, including drinking water. Why do companies market products like this, with no thought or concern to the impact on the environment?

We all live in this world and we will either care for it or destroy it (and ourselves in the process).

While reading this thread, I just realized that the Bath & Body Works deep cleansing hand soap I've used for years has these plastic beads in it. I didn't know it was an environmentally harmful ingredient. If CA and other states have banned the use of these, how can this soap be sold in those states? Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

California has not yet passed the law. They got it through the Assembly, but it lost in the Senate by one vote -- a victim of heavy lobbying by the personal care industry.
