I use a variety of good lip moisturizers/balms night and day, but lately my lips feel chapped and almost swollen. I don't have a fever blister, but it feels like that. I like in southern California warmth, so it's not cold weather causing it! It's like I have had some hot spicy food and it's chapped my lips. Any ideas?

Lip balm wise, the best one I've tried to date is La Mer's but it is pricey. I also like Caudalie's lip balm which costs about $12. It doesn't have as much staying power so it has to be put on pretty often but I've seen improvement when I use it.

Lip Chap Queen here! When driving, I apply J&J Waterbabies Sunscreen stick and this really seems to help. It is in the side partition of the car, so I often forget to apply this every day. Fluorescent lights emit UV rays, and so chapping can occur if you are in an office all day.

For lip glosses, here are my choices: Stila Lip LUXE... color "Kitten" is my favorite, but the Sunlight one is OK. The "LUXE" formula really takes care of the flaky, dry, cracked skin. The "silk" formula is lighter, but it is gone in a NYMINUTE on my lips. Clinique gloss is good, too, and I have not tried all of the formulas (LOL)... I have not had luck with the "crayon" ones. Also, NYX is a great formula -- very moisturizing; also does not last long on my lips. HTH

Do you ever use lip products that have peppermint as one of the ingredients? I know peppermint can cause lips to become chapped or irritated with some people. I've noticed that has happened to me on occasion when I've used a lip shine that had peppermint. Not sure if that's what happened in your case, but just wanted to mention it.

Sounds like contact dermatitis to me. Stop using whatever you're using and switch to something more natural like coconut oil or olive oil and see if it goes away. Some have also seen this with a reaction to toothpaste.

You've been given helpful advice already, but I do want to add my experience with chapped lips. In winter, 2014, I had to stop using my whitening toothpaste. The baking soda and peroxide eventually burned the soft tissue around my lips. I stopped wearing lipstick brands because long-wearing color lipstick added to the dryness. Switched to Vaseline lip care. When lips were healed enough to wear lipstick I could only wear Burt's Bees. Thankfully, this product has both tint and color.

I know healing is a slow process. As another poster mentioned, take a good look at the cosmetic products and toothpaste you are using.

I have all sorts of different lip products, from fresh, eos, chapstick to aquaphor to lip glosses to the IT lip vitality lip stains but when my lips gets really dry and I want the most soothing, I reach for vaseline petroleum jelly. I know, I know....I know where it comes from but I tell you, it never fails to moisturize my lips and make them soft and repair whatever damage the dryness caused.

A bit of olive oil. It soaks right in, you probably already have it in the house, and it is natural. It works wonders on my eczema and is great for after the shower, so using it on my lips was natural. It is harder to travel with it, but I use it when at home.

I, too, like Fresh advanced lip therapy, availabe on QVC. Lately I'm using The Honest Co lip balm (they are 3 to a pack) and when it's really bad because I've worn something irritating, I use The Honest Co organic healing balm. I love that stuff! You can get it from their website. On these threads some posters say their products are availabe at Target and Nordstrom, but I don't know which products are sold where, other than the website.

Thank you for all the great advice and recommendations. I didn't think about toothpaste. I've used Crest Baking soda with peroxide for years, but I know all of a sudden you can get allergic to things. I have used Vaseline and noticed no difference. Also tried coconut oil and it lasts about a second on my lips. I have had problems with my eyelids too (can't think of what it's called) so my skin must be reacting to things.

You've given me much to think about.
