Red lipstick after 40?

What do you ladies think? I'm 43 and love the look of red lips but I don't know if I can get away with it. Maybe if I go sheer? My 2nd cousin wears it and she's 91 ( and she makes it work somehow) . But I feel like at 91 you can get away with almost anything.

Absolutely! You just have to find a red that looks good on you, and that you feel comfortable wearing. Rock that red lip!

My age doesn't determine my lipstick color any more than the length of my hair.

I agree with jaxs mom. Color choices in cosmetics do not depend on your age, but rather on your coloring and clothing. I am very fair, hair is snow white, and there is no way on earth I would attempt to get by with red lipstick. I would look very much like an overaged lady of ill repute. However, I do have one very sheer Clinique lipstick that came in a kit, slightly red and I can get by with this because it's sheer and only wear it with soft red tops, etc. It's more like a lip gloss than a lipstick.

Honestly I have never run into any person I think looks good in a true (or blue) red lipstick, no matter what the age or stage. It always looks unnatural to me.

I am in my 40s and when I'm having an exceptionally good skin day I love the look of a sheer berry red. In my opinion sheer is a more youthful look, not as harsh.

I don't think anyone wearing red lipstick thinks it looks natural. But not everyone goes for that look. 9 times out of 10, when I wear red lipstick, i get a compliment from a stranger or friend on it. I always wear it with a simple eye -- 1-2 coats of mascara, sheer skin tone colored shadow, and maybe a thin line of liner.

I don't think it's an age thing. I think it depends on your coloring. I am pale and I don't think it looks good on me at all. LOL, I don't want red lips to be the first and only thing people see as I walk in a room.

Of course you can wear red lipstick. Look in the mirror -- how does it look? That is your answer. Plus there are so many different shades of red.

There are people that look good in sheers and nude colors, and there are others that look great in brights. It's not about age. It's about coloring. And yes, people with fair skin can look great in bright lipstick especially those of us with very dark hair and fair skin.

As long as you use the right shade of red for your skin tone and you don't get it on your teeth, it's fine.

I'm in my fifties and I find that red looks too harsh on me. I've had to lighten my overall makeup look, I can't wear colors like I did when I was younger. I may not have found the right shade of red yet.

Why not? Get the right shade for you. I'm I my early 50s and wear Mac Ruby Woo Or Wet n Wild Stoplight Red every single day. I'm brunette, olive skin.
