topic Retinol or Not? in Beauty

At 60, I am thankful for pretty good skin. I have read countless articles about the benefits of incorporating retinol into your skincare, but have no idea which product to try. I am thinking maybe a night cream containing retinol might work for me, but which one? Do the majority of ladies out there over 50 use some sort of retinol on a regular basis? Are you seeing real benefits over time? Thanks all.

I'm just slightly younger than you and have been using prescription Retin-A for about 2 1/2 years. It's made more of a difference for me than when I used a retinol product prior to that.

I've been using a prescription retin-a for a year and have noticed a big difference in my skin.

I also use SSC A-line (serum and cream with and without spf) every day along with the retin-a.

I am 55 years old and have very dry, sensitive skin. I have tried many Retinol products and they irritated my skin. It would look like a sunburn, because the product was too strong. I have been using Isomers Retiniacin from Evine for years without any irritation. I think it probably has little retinol in it. It does have niacinamide, which is good for skin. I think this product helps to keep my skin smooth. I noticed a difference when I stopped using it at night!

I was introduced to 15% Retinol at the Clinic my dermatologist works from. Skin Medica is the brand I use and you can find it on-line through the The Derm Store or a skin clinic near you that carries it. Moderately expensive but the regimen I use has made my already good skin look amazing at 59 years old.

I did my own research, and I am a good candidate (over 50) who uses retinol every p.m. (for a few years now.) But I've also studied enough to keep an eye out for the day when I may change this protocol.

Yes, I have seen definite benefits: a balancing between my own skin oils & any dryness...right now I am in complete balance, but I also attribute that to other things, also my pores are invisible, which is a nice visual effect, sun damage has been diminished (thanks also to vitamin C) and I really have no fine lines to talk about.

No skin sensitivities at all, and I am at that age group where I want to nudge cell turnover. I also consume dark green leaves (it seems by the bushel), which are high in vitamin A.

I've tried several retinol products at different strengths, but like the best .15% Alpha Hydrox Retinol ResQ.

If you want that extensive list that Love2Laugh compiled, I think I can retrieve it for you (but that was done a few years back.)

Ladies, I really thank you for all your replies. After reading your input and talking with a few of my friends, I have decided to try a Chantecaille night cream from Nordies. "Retinol Intense Cream". They have a great return policy if it causes me any problems. Thanks again!!!
